Maybe so, but its worth noting that in 8 games, he's been targeted 69 times on a team that has 336 pass attempts.

The Rams have only thrown the ball 249 times in the same number of games, so I doubt that Avery would get nearly as many looks if he was still a Ram.

Well, you are a smart guy (or so you routinely tell us) so figure it out.......

Here is a hint....nobody on the rams has as many receptions or yards and I believe he is the colts number 2.

I have read posts from some folks that talk about how Bradford is getting hammered because his receivers can't get open.......You cannot surmise from the stats of the 2012 Rams what the 2012 stats would be with a guy(s) that can get routinely open. Luck has taken over a 2-14 team with a decimated o line and really shown the league leadership and poise......including giving a Ram castoff new life in his NFL career. 34 catches as a number 2 is pretty darn good at the halfway point. True, Fisher is not about opening up the passing game as the Colts are but with better receivers you could potentially see more passing from Sam...Rams gave up on this guy to early and we are still looking for a true number 1.....

Avery left the game on Sunday in the third quarter with a hip injury. He was in obvious pain and didn't return. It'll be interesting to see what happens as the Colts have a short week and play the Jags on Thursday.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I always liked Avery and wished the Rams would have given him a final shot in 2011. That said, he was coming off a knee injury that kept him out the entire 2010 season, so I understand the Rams looking to go another direction.

He is playing with a WR who is No. 1 in receiving yards in the NFL, so he should be open a lot, but the reality is, less than 50% of the passes thrown his way have resulted in completions. By contrast, Brandon Gibson has 28 receptions in 42 targets (67%) and Donnie Avery has 32 receptions in 49 targets (65%).

So... am I happy that Donnie Avery is doing well? Yes.

Do I think we might have given up on him too soon? Yes.

Do I think he is a potential No. 1 WR? No.

I am very happy for Donnie Avery. It always pains me to see a Ram do well that was given up on. And with his production lets not forget it is on a team that was 2-14 last year, had o line shuffling as well AND a rookie QB. I do not see him as number 1 either but good for him. I hope he keeps it up....outside chance of 1000 yards.
