Falcons Sign Ryan
Falcons, Ryan reach terms on six-year, $72 million contract
NFL.com Wire Reports
The Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms with quarterback Matt Ryan on a six-year contract on Tuesday.
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the contract is valued at $72 million, with $34.75 million guaranteed.
Ryan was the third overall choice, and the first quarterback selected, in the 2008 NFL Draft out of Boston College. He becomes the second first-round draft pick to sign, following top overall choice Jake Long, who signed a five-year contract worth $57.75 million.
Ryan was in attendence when the Falcons held organized team activities on Monday.
"I was going to be here regardless, that's off-the-field stuff," said Ryan of contract negotiations. "I'm down here, working with the guys, and getting ready for the season."
The Falcons have called a news conference for 8 p.m. ET.

Wow, the bar has been raised. What does this mean for negotiations between Long and the Rams? Do things get easier or more difficult?

Re: Falcons Sign Ryan
for a guy that some so called experts had rated below some of the other QB's that is some serious cash. considering where he is playing he better be worth it or life will suck in Atlanta for him.

I agree. He's all smiles now, but let's see what happenes when he's thrown into the fire and expected to live up to his contract from day one. Seems like an almost impossible situation IMO, especially with the mood in Atlanta these days.

Maybe he will start taunting the opposing QB and try to make them breakdown and cry.

With a 75 million dollar contract, anything is possible. Shoot, if I signed a 75 million dollar contract and one of the speculations is that I would have to kiss Hillary Clinton.......I'd do it for 75 million.

If he get's himself in a position where he can pull that off ramsbruce, he'll be heading in the right direction.

That may be true Tx, but when you're making more money than guys like Tom Brady without ever setting foot on the field, expectations are going to be off the charts and patience is going to be at a premium. Knowing the history of rookie QB's starting out of the gate, sounds like a tough situation to me.
I'll leave the Hillary comment alone.

Oh oh, if that's the case, I may have to break out the big "I" word that I used for your buddy Phil Rivers.

Uh yeah sure that's it Mike.
I just wonder how bad Bulger would have been roasted had he pulled a "Rivers".
Oh and just to keep on track, a rookie salary cap is obviously needed.

Re: Falcons Sign Ryan
when i heard about his contract, i was shocked. the guy isnt proven in the NFL. and i say that because the team hes going to is lousy, much like Darren McFadden going to the Raiders. neither team is all that great offensively. guys like Chris Long and Glen Dorsey will make an impact IMO because they can disrupt the run and the passing game.
