    OJ Atogwe now a Redskin

Redskins agreed to terms with FS O.J. Atogwe on a five-year contract.
This is not a move I am happy with. I have been behind everything the FO has completed until this. I was not as excited about Stewart as Devany seemed to be, maybe he seen things I never. But I hope he can make up for the two S positions we now need to fill........

OJ it has been amazing having you on the team, you are a standup guy and we never exactly treated you right here. Good Luck.

Re: Former Rams safety O.J. Atogwe signs five-year deal with Redskins

Perhaps I'm in the minority here, but I'm fine with this.

I've always liked Atogwe as a player but, truth be told, he/his agent created this situation. Last year, they clearly held out for more money than Atogwe's market value (the fact that they tested the market demonstrates this). So, the Rams did what they had to do. They applied a one-year band-aid.

I don't know what Washington is paying him (they certainly are not known for the frugality), but I'm guessing its more than the Rams wanted to spend.

This does create another need for the Rams, but its not as if FS is the most difficult position to fill.

Thanks for your efforts O.J. and good luck in Washington.

Not happy with it, but we will need to wait until we hear the details. Maybe it was more than the FO thought he was worth.

I am not happy about this, but nor am I mad. He was a turnover machine but he had seemed to fall off a little in the past two years. He was also in my opinion less then spectacular in coverage. I think we will be fine without him. Regardless I liked him and I wish him luck.

I'm not happy with this but it is what it is... If the Redskins offered a ridiculous contract to the kid, then I can see other top notch safeties like Troy Polamalu wanting a raise, causing more of a ruckus towards the labor issues...

It may not be the most difficult, but the Rams have had their problems in the past finding a solid player for the spot. Personally, I'd rather not relive the days when the Rams depended on Kim Herring, Jason Sehorn, and Rich Coady at the position. That said, you're right - Washington has a history of overpaying, so if Atogwe got a king's ransom, then it will put the Rams' decision in better perspective.

ESPN is reporting it is a five year, 26 million dollar contract. Not sure what we were offering him.

What's kind of amusing about this is that there was a discussion topic last season here at the Clan with a Redskins fan debating with Rams fans about whether Landry or Atogwe was the better safety, and now it seems Washington will have both of them now.

Okay, but if the money that would have gone to Atogwe instead goes to sign a starting WR, OG or OLB, I'll be okay with that trade-off.

Its apparently 5 years, $26M. Not exactly a "King's ransom" (maybe a Duke's?) but, again, if the Rams are going to put the money that O.J. was seeking to good use at a more key position, I'm not going to argue with their logic.

True...but the need at Safety just got even worse, quite possibly our biggest need now (sucks cause this could be one of the weakest safety classes in a while, not one first rd safety IMO). Need a free and strong. Need a safety of some capacity.

Low risk contract, with a high reward incentives for the artist formerly known as the Colonel.

Re: Former Rams safety O.J. Atogwe signs five-year deal with Redskins

he`ll turn 30 soon..can`t say i`d want us giving a 5 year deal to anyone whose 30 and is still yet to show that he is the complete package at his position..i don`t want to rubbish O.J. but just like Long and Bartell`s stats haven`t shown the whole picture with them..i think the stats painted O.J to be a bit better than he actually was.
i would have liked him to stay but we`ve been going through this every year for the last few off- seasons and i`m atleast glad that the line has now been drawn under it and both sides can move on.
fans may not like it but we are still on the rise and we need the people who have access to what the masterplan is,to have the tools they need ..if OJ figured into their plans they would have signed him to a long term deal..Snyder may be looser with his cash than Stan but if Spags and Billy D wanted OJ bad enough i`m sure he would have put the package together to make it happen.
looking forward to see who we replace him with..some decent safeties looking to be there in the middle rounds.
