Frank Gore wants a new contract

    Gore seeking new deal
    By Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports
    March 8, 2007

Agent Drew Rosenhaus said he expects talks with the San Francisco ***** over a new contract for running back Frank Gore to "heat up" in the next few days. Those sentiments came shortly after Rosenhaus negotiated a six-year deal worth in excess of $32 million for running back Willis McGahee, traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.

McGahee was the third running back client of Rosenhaus to receive a new deal in the past week. Fred Taylor signed an extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars on March 1 and Thomas Jones got a new deal after being traded by the Chicago Bears to the New York Jets on Tuesday.

"Obviously, [contract talks for Gore have] to heat up after where the market has gone the past week for running backs," Rosenhaus said. All three deals were worth at least $20 million. The pacts were among 14 Rosenhaus negotiated or restructured for players in the last week.

"You'd like to think that a deal for Frank is imminent," Rosenhaus said.

Perhaps, but Gore is just two years into his original five-year rookie pact. A third-round pick in 2005, Gore rushed for 1,695 yards on 312 carries last season for the *****.

But despite the obstacle of Gore having so much time left on his current deal, Rosenhaus seemed optimistic.

"The landscape for running backs has changed drastically in the past week and with the type of forward-thinking approach that the ***** have, I would think they'll be interested in getting something done," Rosenhaus said.

that is pretty cheap, but no one forced him to sign his original contract.

Do the words "no leverage of any kind" mean anything to anyone? Rosenhaus is trying to bluster his way through this one and he is fantastic at what he does. However, i dont see why the whiners should pay him after one great breakout year when he has three years to go on his deal and has a long history of injury problems.

Hopefully they do give him a ton of money. That would eat up some of the immense cap space they have.

It takes some gall to ask for a new contract in your second year in the league. I don't care who you are. Gore is talented, but there's no way they're going to renegotiate when they've got him locked up for at least two more years.

IIRC, the team initiated contract talks with Rosenhaus. They'd like to have him locked up for more than two years.
