As if Giants general manager Jerry Reese doesn’t have enough on his offseason plate as he attempts to reconstruct his coaching staff and team, he must make a decision on safety Will Hill, who could be facing his third drug suspension in as many seasons next year.

Hill, a former St. Peter’s Prep star, is immensely talented but he’s just as troubled. The Giants must determine if he’s worth the headache.

On Dec. 20th, Hill, who had a breakout season in 2013, was arrested for being more than $9,000 behind in child support. But during the arrest, it was recently reported by that police detected the odor of marijuana in the vehicle, which was owned by Hill but driven by a friend.

The Giants initially called it a “personal matter” and Hill traveled to Detroit with the team two days later and returned an interception for a touchdown to help spark a victory. While linebacker Jon Beason received most of the credit for the Giants’ defensive resurgence, Hill insertion into the starting lineup solidified the secondary.

In 10 starts, Hill had 77 tackles and two interceptions. He can play the run and the pass.

Problem is, Hill has served four-game suspensions to begin each of his first two seasons. This season, he sat out the first four games for drug use, which he admitted was marijuana. As a rookie last season, he was suspended for the first four games for use of Adderall, a prescription drug used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

The Giants have plenty of talent at safety in Antrel Rolle, who was a second-team All-Pro selection, veteran Ryan Mundy and Stevie Brown, who missed last season with a knee injury. Both Mundy and Brown are free agents.

What do you think? Should the Giants bring Hill back or release him? They’ve already given him several chances, including signing him out of the University of Florida when no other NFL wanted him because of his off-the-field issues.

The league is monitoring Hill's current situation and it's unclear if he'll have to serve another suspension next season.
