April 28, 2005

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Rock All-America nose tackle Brian Godfrey signed a free-agent contract with the NFL Washington Redskins earlier this week and will begin a four-day mini camp on Friday.

Godfrey earned All-America honors from D2Football.com, the Don Hansen Football Gazette and Dopke.com last fall after being named for the third successive season as a first-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division performer.

He is the first Rock football player to sign an NFL contract since 2001, when wide receiver D.J. Flick inked a free-agent deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Flick is now an all-star wide receiver in the Canadian Football League.

The Rock currently has four players participating in one of the Arena Football League competitions.

Greg Hopkins, John Sikora and Matt Kinsinger are all playing in the AFL's major league, while Bill Ricks is in the Arena2 League.
