Haslett, UFL's Orlando franchise ready to welcome Michael Vick

Michael Vick's next football home could be in Orlando playing for the start-up United Football League.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that the Orlando franchise, one of four teams in the league expected to begin this fall, would likely pick up Vick based on the league's regionalized setup.

Orlando coach Jim Haslett, the interim head coach of the Rams last season, said he'd welcome the currently imprisoned quarterback. Vick, convicted on a federal dogfighting charge, is set to leave federal custody on July 20.

"Obviously his values are a little different than mine or yours probably," Haslett told the Sentinel, "but as long as he does what he's supposed to do, I think he deserves a second chance. Out of the four cities in this league, this would be the city that would probably accept him. People will want to see him play. He was a great quarterback. He has a .700 percent winning record. But he hasn't thrown and he hasn't played much football lately, obviously, and there are a lot of unknowns about what the NFL's going to do."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reiterated on Tuesday that he wants to see genuine remorse from Vick if he applies for reinstatement, as expected.

We'll see how he feels after the public outcry, the angry, unrelenting protests by PETA and the lack of sponsorship. Good luck to Haslett and Orlando if they welcome Vick.

To think there was some people that wanted to keep Haslett. Heck there were some players that said they wanted to keep him.

    4 pillars vs. no pillars.

Man am I glad Haslett is gone and Spags is our HC.

    Just a pondering thought, but...

How is this subject related to the NFL at all?

This is a UFL team, and a player suspended from the NFL perhaps permanently.
