***** Hire Mike Martz
***** HIRE MIKE MARTZ by Michael David Smith
Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the San Francisco ***** have hired Mike Martz as their new offensive coordinator.
Martz replaces Jim Hostler, who had one disastrous year as the *****' offensive coordinator. Martz spent the last two years as the offensive coordinator in Detroit, and seven years before that in St. Louis, first as offensive coordinator and then as head coach.
Martz will now be tasked with the difficult job of making Alex Smith look like the franchise quarterback the ***** thought he was when they chose him with the first pick in the 2005 NFL draft. This season Smith was limited by injury to just seven games, and he had a completion percentage of 48.7 percent, with two touchdowns and four interceptions.
This development makes agent Bob LaMont a powerful figure in San Francisco: LaMont represents Martz, head coach Mike Nolan and assistant head coach-defense Mike Singletary

Re: ***** Hire Mike Martz
Well, if Martz can turn a stockboy like Warner into a top notch QB, and let's not forget Trent Green and Marc Bulger, then I'm a little worried about what he could do with the pedigree of an Alex Smith.

In other news, the 2008 fantasy value of ***** running back Frank Gore has plummeted at an astronomical rate. More on this as it develops.

Ah, this is just great. If Kurt keeps playing well, we'll face Warner twice a year and Martz twice a year. Let's hope it takes Mike longer to make the personnel changes to fit his system than it does for him to piss off everyone in the ***** front office.

Re: ***** Hire Mike Martz
.I think you've got it backwards, Nick. I think Martz will make Gore more dangerous. He may not use him as much but the situational running and increased receptions in open space will play toward Gore's strengths and keep him healthier. Smith's completion pct. will rise with the dumpoffs too.In other news, the 2008 fantasy value of ***** running back Frank Gore has plummeted at an astronomical rate. More on this as it develops
Rams fans, as controversial as Martz was, he still brought the best times we've every seen. This is a small dagger to the heart for me. There is some small possibility to see guy's like Bruce, Hakim, Green, Warner and others possibly migrate to the Niners as well.

How 'bout Trung Canidate?
Martz definitely deserves criticism when it comes to some things but a blanket statement about him refusing to use his RB's seems a little off-base. I really question his ability to put together a solid o-line but if Nolan and company are in charge of that, then Martz may have a good situation in SF. Millen is even worse than Martz when it comes to what really matters in building a good team so I kind of give Martz a pass for his Detroit running problems.

Re: ***** Hire Mike Martz
Well it's better than if he signed with Arizona or Seattle, they at least have some weapons on their offenses. Whiners? Let's just say Martz will really have to work his magic to produce much with that O. It'll be interesting to see how he copes with this job. As I see it the Whiners offense really doesn't have any of the components that Martz needs in his system (Detroit at least had WR's + a somewhat decent QB). They have Gore but I don't see him as the type of back Martz likes, he's more of a straight-up runner and not a multi-faceted weapon. They've got no receivers worth mentioning, but a TE that could develop well. And then Smith, who I don't see as a good QB or even someone that will become good. A tough job to turn that offense into anything, but it will be interesting to see what he does, he's pulled QB's out of nowhere before and turned them into stars, and he has a knack for finding receivers too.

Re: ***** Hire Mike Martz
This is the best thing for us.
Martz ran Faulk an average of 16 times per game or so even though he is one of the best RBs to ever suit up. Frank Gore is nowhere near Faulk's level. Not to mention that Gore is not the sharpest tool in the shed...he has a learning disability so his grasp on Martz's complex system won't be great.
Martz will accentuate the ***** worst features on O (QB, WRs) while decreasing Frank Gore's productivity.
While he may make their passing game better, it still won't be "That" good.Last edited by Milan; -02-01-2008 at 12:05 AM.

Re: ***** Hire Mike Martz
Smith will end up with a broken right throwing hand just like Warner did with Mike's three step drops.
