You're right, NJ. It's sad in a way, nonetheless. To me, perhaps more than seeing Holt in Hated Country, is not seeing him as a Ram.

I wish Holt the best, but I can't wish anything good for New England.

Much of that predates the era of active free agency, though.

To be fair to our so-called treacherous players, this organization hasn't done a whole lot to earn the undying loyalty of its players and employees over the last decade.

Peoria, by "much of that" I take it you mean the [Rams] players that remained -- for one reason or another -- with their team during their entire career (e.g., Post #16). A serious rarity nowadays. Too bad Torry Holt left as many other Rams.

So true, back in those days the concept of FA was embrionic, let alone active. Still, I wanted to pay tribute, if you will, to those Rams that were always a Ram. I've got 10 so far that didn't walk out the door -- there are more.

Fast forward to the 21st century. I wonder if Tom Brady will leave the Pats. It could be!

    Re: Holt signs with Patriots

Hmm, Torry Holt went to NE. Maybe next year Tom Brady becomes a Ram!?!

You know, a la Joe Namath. To finish his career with the Rams as a backup to a backup QB.

Anyway, I've updated Post #16. Those are the Rams that, again, for some reason -- and loyalty may be one of these -- remained a Ram their whole career (seven+ seasons). Lamar Lundy, first Ram to play 10 years or more for the team. He retired as a Ram, of course.

[BTW, It is very clear and interesting to see that before 1950, most professional football players' career was averaging SIX years. Many played 1 to 4 years only. An obvious indication to the inadequate protective gear; especially if they played in the trenches! Leather helmets, no helmets. Many played on both sides of the ball too. Ouch.]

And so, GO RAMS! ...Except those that move to the Pats.

    Re: Holt signs with Patriots

Just as clarification I dont blame Holt for going to the Pats, they have a good chance to go to the playoffs which Holt hasnt been able to do in the past few years. He might even add another ring, so I dont think I can blame his move. It just makes me sad.

"Welcome, Torry. Let me show you around. Here's the weight room. Over there is the trainer's office. The locker room is down this hall."

"What's that room with the combination lock on the door?"

"Oh... that's our video department. You don't need to worry about that. Now, lets find you a locker..."

    Re: Holt signs with Patriots

    Loyalty is called a paycheck?

Maybe Holt wants to see just how much better Kurt was than Brady?

Holt being a Pat just makes the game slightly more palatable when The Powers That Be decide that the Pats will be the only game broadcast in a given time slot.... or maybe not so much

    Re: Holt signs with Patriots

Maybe Holt is in deep cover and is really looking for evidence of the Cheatriots tapes of the Rams before our Superbowl loss LOL.

It does suck that Bruce went to the Whiners and Holt went to the Cheatriots my two most hated teams but it will pass just like the Bruce thing did.

This ranks right up there with the signing of one of our other receivers who's name shall not pass these lips signed with the hated whiners. Now we have this turn coat signing with the cheateroits. Another's name shall now not pass these lips.

I hate the Patriots with a passion, but I wish Torry all the best. I hope he does well over there, but retires as a Ram one day (as well as Bruuuuuuuce).

These are both guys that we cut. I say let them sign where ever they want, why should Torry not sign with the Patriots? Bcecause they beat us in a superbowl? He hoping that he can win one with them now. Torry Holt is on of my favorite players ever and I will always tout him as such, no matter who he is playing for.
