Would you rather be a fan of a team that hovers around .500 consistently and makes the playoffs every once in a while but never wins the SUPERBOWL?
Or be a fan of a team that spikes. Goes on long losing season stretches but then surprises every so often and goes all the way and wins the SUPERBOWL?
Then falls back into they're losing ways.
Do you think Bills fans would trade winning one of those four Super Bowls in exchange for not going the other three times?
There is absolutely NOTHING that compares to your team winning the Super Bowl and NOTHING that compares to your team losing the Super Bowl, so I would take the highs and lows if it meant winning it all every so often.
I would take whatever gets me the WIN. If that means years of losing followed by a SB win every now and then, I'd take it anyday over a team that's pretty decent or good but never wins it.
Of course, in the NFL every team really has a shot at it every year.

The goal for any pro-sports team should be to try and win a championship not merely competing and going close. It's not even close give me a SuperBowl win once in a bluemoon rather than being a mere challenger.
