The Jacksonville Jaguars cut veteran safety Donovin Darius on Thursday.
Darius, who turns 32 in August, has played in just 12 games total the past two seasons because of various injuries.
First-round pick Reggie Nelson is penciled in to start at free safety for the Jaguars, and veteran Gerald Sensabaugh, who took over when Darius was injured last season, is the likely starter at strong safety.
T he backups are slated to be second-year man Jamaal Fudge, a Jacksonville native who was an undrafted free agent last season, and Josh Gattis, a fifth-round pick out of Wake Forest in April.
The Jags said they cut Darius now to give him a chance to catch on elsewhere. He has been with the Jags since he entered the league in 1998 out of Syracuse.

hmmmmm i was just going to post this too ,,, damn you nick... whoever picks up darius is going to have a great veteran who will instantly help their secondary
Re: Jaguars part ways with Donovin Darius
we need to pursue Darius without hesitation...Atogwe isn't the answer at safety....i think our SS position is our weakest position on defense. Darius could give us a solid 2 seasons of production. make the move!!!!!

Atogwe isn't half as bad as Chavos!!
Re: Jaguars part ways with Donovin Darius
Darius is a very good player at safety, but at 32 years of age I don't know how much longer he's going to last.

i cant see how talking about Atogwe is relevent since he is our FS!
I would prefer Chavous to Darius, if only because of Darius' injuries
Re: Jaguars part ways with Donovin Darius
SS is our weakest position but we need a young play maker not get even older. Darius would be nice as an immediate help (if he stays healthy).
