Jets | Abraham says it is time to move on
Jets | Abraham says it is time to move on
Sun, 26 Feb 2006 06:58:12 -0800
Steve Serby, of the New York Post, reports New York Jets franchised DE John Abraham is more than ready to leave the Jets. "I don't think they really respect me as a player," Abraham told The Post yesterday in his first public remarks since being slapped with the $8.3 million franchise tag. "I feel I overstayed my welcome in New York. It's time to move on." What particularly irks Abraham is the silent treatment he's gotten from the Jets. "Their communication was really bad with me throughout the whole year," he said. There are rumblings that new head coach Eric Mangini and general manager Mike Tannenbaum will explore trading Abraham between now and the April 29 NFL Draft. Abraham has yet to sign the $8.3 franchise tender. Asked if he plans on signing it, Abraham said: "I'm not sure. It's according to what they're going to do. No one from that organization has called me personally."

Probrably a 2nd Rounder. How old is he?

28, however it seems that the value of players when being traded is vastly different to how it used to be. And since Abraham really wants to leave, it may be possible for the Rams to get him for less then that. The Vikes are only asking for a second rounder for Culpepper, and when Owens was traded to Baltimore it was for a second.

I'd offer a 2nd Rounder and say there is our Dlineman for the draft.

Re: Jets | Abraham says it is time to move on

Re: Jets | Abraham says it is time to move on
Me too but Abraham is a monster and him and Little on the line ... Damn that would be the best DE duo in the NFL.

Re: Jets | Abraham says it is time to move on
Well the thing is, it would create a monster pass rush. Whoever isn't doubled out of the two will get to the QB often. And if you combine both of them and a huge, powerful DT then there would be no stopping the line

Sorry guys, I really don't think you're getting Abraham for anything less than a first unless you include a decent player as well. Elite pass rushers aren't easy to come by.

Re: Jets | Abraham says it is time to move on
Well i would have thought that nowdays people value draft picks much higher then they used to. That said, Abraham plays for th Jets, a team that valued Doug Jolley worthy of a first rounder, so i would hate to see what they are asking for Abraham

I think it's a good point that because of their cap status, they may be forced to settle for less, though.

Thats true, they have already cut quite a few players, and Abraham is going to have a high tender because he was tagged last year

Also i found this:
" Last season, Abraham had 70 tackles, 10 1/2 sacks, six forced fumbles (all on quarterback strips) and one fumble recovery.
He played in nearly 85 percent of the defensive snaps and improved his play against the run after bulking up to 265 pounds.
Entering last season, Abraham hadn't played an entire 16-game schedule since 2002 and the Jets used that as leverage in not signing him to a long-term deal."
He had good stats last year, and the Jets may use that to try and get a very good draft pick for him. However the money they have tied up in him, and the fact he has been injured quite a bit may mean the price will be driven down.
