Jim Haslett, Danny Smith Get Contract Extensions From Redskins
By Matt Verderame
Sep 19, 2012 - The Washington Redskins announced the contract extensions of Jim Haslett and Danny Smith on Wednesday.
Head coach Mike Shanahan told the media on Wednesday that both were extended in the offseason. While details weren't given, sources say the deals run through at least the 2013 season, according to the Washington Post.
Haslett has been the defensive coordinator for the Redskins since 2010 after serving as a head coach first with the New Orleans Saints and then on an interim basis with the St. Louis Rams.
The coordinator has been under fire after Washington blew a double-digit lead against the Rams last Sunday, ultimately resulting in a 31-26 defeat to drop the team's record to 1-1.
Smith is the special teams coordinator and also has been heavily scrutinized. In 2011, five Redskins' field goal attempts were blocked, and two punts have already been swatted down this year.
"If I didn’t feel very good about Jim and I didn’t feel very good about Danny, I wouldn’t have extended them," Shanahan said after practice at Redskins Park. "I feel very good about those coaches. They’re excellent football coaches."
Probably not the ideal time to announce Haslett's extension given that his defense is allowing 31.5 points per game through two weeks.

That's great news seeing as how he's a terrible coordinator.
