Linehan to Coach Lions Offense

Scott Linehan, the former St. Louis Rams coach who turned down the San Francisco *****' offer to become their offensive coordinator, has agreed to join the Lions in that position, team sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen on Friday. Linehan declined the *****' offer Sunday, saying he wasn't ready to commit to his next coaching move. Linehan, a respected former offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings, was fired four games into his third season as the Rams' coach last September. New Lions coach Jim Schwartz hired veteran assistant Gunther Cunningham as defensive coordinator Wednesday.

Interesting. Just as Linehan did, Schwartz has surrounded himself with coordinators who are former HCs.

And, curiously enough, also losers in their respective HC gigs.

WHAT SAY YE?

Say what you want about Linehan as a HC, but as an OC he was a white hot commodity in NFL circles this year.

Just about every team with an opening except the Rams showed pretty strong interest in him. Whiners, Raiders, Bucs, Jets and Lions.

I'm guessing he chose Detroit because it is closest in proximity to his family of the group and he said that was important to him when he turned down the Niners job.

Is it possible for a team to finish with a record of -1 and 16?

That steady dose of lateral passes to the sidelines should put Detriot in the playoffs this year for sure!

Man, I really feel bad for the Lions and everything, but they keep doing it to themselves. Good Luck to them I guess...

there are just so many jokes that can be made of this and I am sure we will hear alot of them,but why an 0-16 team ? is this because theres no where but up and if he really does a crappy job will anyone even notice ? I mean why would you pick Detroit to live of all places when you could have lived on the west coast and great warm weather ?

The Lions are on our schedule in 2009. We play them at Detroit.

Could there be some added incentive to beating the Lions now that Linehan is there? I don't think alot of our players liked Linehan at all.
