Vikings | Team reportedly shopping Culpepper again
Thu, 2 Mar 2006 18:27:25 -0800
Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Minnesota Vikings are reportedly once again shopping QB Daunte Culpepper. One NFL team confirmed that the Vikings have begun shopping Culpepper again, ascertaining whether another team would be willing to deal for him. The big concern to other teams is Culpepper's knee. However, those close to Culpepper believe he is going to be completely recovered from his knee injury and that the quarterback is rehabbing almost freakishly. There should be some resolution to the story by March 17, the date that Culpepper's $6 million roster bonus is due.RamsFan16

Jets | Abraham drawing interest
Jets | Abraham drawing interest
Thu, 2 Mar 2006 15:57:57 -0800
NFL.com reports agents Tony Agnone and Rich Rosa, said on a conference call that four or five teams said they were "definitely interested" in New York Jets franchise DE John Abraham, but they declined to name them. "Change is good and for John Abraham moving forward, change would be good for him," Rosa said. "You get to a point in your career as a player when there's been some unfulfilled promises, you have to move through that because it's a business. That's what we've been able to do with John, have his sights set on a brighter future." Agnone and Rosa said in the best case scenario, they would come to a long-term deal with an interested team and then have the new club work out a trade with the Jets.

Andrews' report said that Brees could be allowed to participate in a team's minicamp in May. "At this point, he is eight plus weeks post-op and is ahead of schedule relative to his healing process and recovery," Andrews said.RamsFan16

Colts | Ruling impacts team's salary cap status
Colts | Ruling impacts team's salary cap status
Thu, 2 Mar 2006 06:10:53 -0800
Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports a ruling Wednesday, March 1, by an NFL arbitrator specifically regarding the contracts of QB Peyton Manning and WR Marvin Harrison could result in several significant player cuts by the Indianapolis Colts as they attempt to comply with the league's projected 2006 salary cap of $95 million. At issue, for now, are roster bonuses of $9 million due Manning and $10 million due Harrison. The Colts intended to implement a normal bookkeeping maneuver that converts a roster bonus into a signing bonus and prorating it over the next four years. That would have lowered Manning's 2006 cap number from $17.766 million to $10 million and Harrison's cap hit from $14.4 million to $6.9 million. The lack of an extension carries restrictive guidelines regarding player contracts, including the conversion of roster bonuses. According to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, arbitrator Stephen Burbank ruled such conversions are prohibited under the labor agreement if they violate the so-called "30 percent rule,'' which keeps base salaries from increasing more than 30 percent each year over the first year of the contract. It's believed a special master's ruling is final, but Colts' owner Jim Irsay said the issue is far from resolved.
Steelers | Teammates make pitches to keep Randle El
Thu, 2 Mar 2006 06:06:33 -0800
Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports QB Ben Roethlisberger and WR Hines Ward have made their pitches to WR Antwaan Randle El to re-sign with the team. Randle El does not believe the lack of a collective bargaining agreement extension in the league will affect him. Randle El did acknowledge that negotiations have gone nowhere with the Steelers, and the uncertainty of the collective bargaining agreement might be a reason. Ward said he hoped the Steelers would keep Randle El, but talked as if he were already gone, joining WR Plaxico Burress as consecutive starting split ends lost through free agency. "If we don't have Antwaan, the next guy who comes in has to step up and perform, just like when we lost Plax," Ward said. "Everybody kept saying we couldn't win when we lost Plax and here we are Super Bowl champions!"RamsFan16

Dolphins | Team shaves $12.8 million off salary cap Wednesday
Wed, 1 Mar 2006 21:35:18 -0800
Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins shaved $12.8 million off of its 2006 salary cap Wednesday, March 2. With the 2006 salary cap set at $94.5 million, the Dolphins still have $6.6 million in salary to eliminate before they are under the cap. If a new collective bargaining agreement is made, the cap could jump to between $105 million and $110 million. The team has until 10 p.m. to make sure they are within the cap's restrictions.RamsFan16

Re: Lots of players cut from teams
This salary cap and cap casualties kills me. Every year players are moving from 1 team to another because of money. What happened to loyalty and the love of the game. I thought it was every players dream to play in the NFL, If that's not true than go play something else.
How much is enough, loyalty to a specific player is tough. The players are only hurting themselves in the long run.
The Team ( ST LOUIS RAMS ) that's where my loyalties are, forget about the individuals.

Packers | Chatman now an unrestricted free agent
Fri, 3 Mar 2006 05:26:49 -0800
Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers have decided not to tender an offer to restricted free agent WR Antonio Chatman, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent. "Reggie McKenzie told me it's a new system and they want big receivers," agent Mark Mersel said, referring to the team's director of pro personnel. "I'm surprised. He's surprised. I thought he could be in Green Bay for the long run. But if they don't want to respect a guy with a big heart, then so be it."
He would be a good cheap pickup for a return man.RamsFan16
