Re: Martz resigns as OC
I was going to move this thread to the NFL TALK forum ....BUT.....In a RAMS related question. If McDaniels goes to KC (many rumors about him going there) is Martz someone we should consider as our OC?

Re: Martz resigns as OC
I did not like Martz as a head coach but he must be given tremendous credit for his role as offensive coordinator on that Super Bowl winning team. That said, although the cast of characters has changed, I think there may have been too many bridges burned in St. Louis for him to return there. Martz hasn't exactly endeared himself to the organizations he's been a part of the last few years. There were the much publicized squabbles with the Rams front office, he wore out his welcome with SF and now there are "philosophical differences" in Chicago. No one stays in a coaching gig forever, but it seems Martz is not the easiest guy in the world to deal with.
And I think his high-risk passing schemes and protections would have Bradford in a body bag by week 4.

Re: Martz resigns as OC
"Philosophical differences" was the reason he was booted out of Detroit, the reason he was run out of San Francisco, and now the reason he was shown the door out of Chicago, where he couldn't obviously even co-exist with close friend Lovie Smith. Martz is just bad news. His inability to work with anyone far outwieghs his abilities as an offensive mind.

Re: Martz resigns as OC
If he' not given the authority to throw the red challenge flag or call time-outs, I'm all for his return!
Seriously, his fallout was with the previous regime in the FO. Right now there isn't one, so time will tell if his return is even feasible. He does wear out his welcome after a few years so he may not be the best choice, plus I still blame him mostly for our Super Bowl loss in SB XXXVl with ridiculous play calls. Of course the Patriots cheated too, so there was plenty of blame to go around.
His offense is as complex as McD's so Sam's head could be spinning if he's re-hired. My feeling is if we hire Jeff Fisher, which I fervently hope we do, Martz may not be a good fit in terms of egos, but strange bedfellows are the norm these days in the NFL. I also believe hearing that Fisher has assembled his staff wherever he goes, so this may all be a moot discussion.
Go Rams!

How do you resign when you don't have a contract? Martz refused to sign the Bears contract offer last summer (it was an ultra low figure). His contract was up at the end of the season.

Re: Martz resigns as OC
I'm not privy to the inner workings of any of these organizations. "Philosophical differences" could mean any number of things. How much he's worth for one (I believe the Bears low balled him). Could be over personnel etc. The guy knows how to put up numbers though. Didn't Kitna throw for like 4k yards in Detroit with Martz's system?
Martz just needs someone to keep him from going to extremes with his offense, but with our offensive line woes I don't see them being able to block long enough for his routes to develop - much like McD's offense this year.

Lions, Whiners and Bears, OH MY!! Lets not forget the Rams back in the day.
Unless hes controlled(which he cant be), id say no.
We dont need Bradford getting Bulgerized anymore then he already has been.

Re: Martz resigns as OC
He'd be a "dream team" quarterback coach/recievers coach.
Patient, not saintly.

Re: Martz resigns as OC
The last thing Bradford needs now is for every passing play to be with a 7 step drop and long developing patterns. We don't have the line personnel and for the most part the receiver personnel to keep Sam in one piece.
