Michael Crabtree suffers torn Achilles tendon at OTAs

Per USA Today (and reported on RotoWorld).

That is typically a six month injury (at least), so the Niners will be impacted by this one.

This is a reminder of a harsh reality - every team is going to have injuries. This is just the first significant one in the NFC West for 2013.

Michael Crabtree tears Achilles during ***** OTAs

Michael Crabtree's 2013 season might be over before it began.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the San Francisco ***** wide receiver suffered a torn Achilles tendon during organized team activities on Tuesday.
Crabtree will soon undergo surgery to repair the tendon. The surgery could be season-ending, though it's possible Crabtree could return at some point this season.

USA Today's Mike Garafolo was the first to report the news.
It's brutal news for the *****, who watched Crabtree bloom into a Pro Bowl-level receiver in his fourth season. Crabtree set career highs in receptions (85), yards (1,105) and touchdowns (9). His production took off after Colin Kaepernick replaced Alex Smith as starting quarterback.
If there's a silver lining for the Niners, it's the progress that's been made in the treatment of this type of injury. While an Achilles tear was once an instant season-ender, but that's changed in recent times. Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da'Quan Bowers both tore the same tendon last spring and rejoined their respective teams after stays on the PUP list.
That timetable seems to be a best-case scenario for Crabtree in 2013. The ***** -- already thin at receiver as Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams recover from knee surgery -- have an early crisis on their hands.

I never wish any player to get injured, and i hope Crabtree has a good recovery. I don't however, mind him missing the season and making things a little harder for the ***** this season.

I bet he's back in October but he certainly won't be 100% in 2013.

Da'Quan Bowers made it back but he wasn't overly productive.

October would be way ahead of schedule. I'd say mid-late November, at best.

Although I am sure he didn't want to see any teammate get hurt, I'll bet AJ Jenkins is secretly somehwat pleased as it will give him more playing time.

I doubt this will diminish the whiners projections much, the team is more focused on Gore and Kaepernick than on Crabtree, plus they still have a stable of pretty good receiving options.

I think this is a bigger loss than we think. Crabtree was becoming Crapernicks go to target last year. I thought going into this year, Crabtree would be the #1 Receiver on the team. IMO this hurts the 9ers a lot! Especially with Alex Morgan and Bolding being semi-injured. This team has a lot of #3s maybe a #2 receiver BUT no #1!

This makes me one happy man. Take away Kaepernicks #1 option and their chain mover. I don't think Vernon Davis is as lethal now because we actually have someone who can cover him (Ogletree). We can key down on the run, because frankly Quinton Patton, A.J Jenkins, Kyle Williams, and Mario Manningham aren't scaring anybody, especially not with the corners we have.
