NFL | Kraft predicts CBA deal by Wednesday
Mon, 27 Feb 2006 21:07:58 -0800
Updating previous reports, Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports New England Patriots vice president Jonathan Kraft expects a new collective bargaining agreement to be completed by Wednesday, March 1. Kraft said, "If I were betting, I would bet there would be a deal by Wednesday." League owners are scheduled for a conference call Tuesday, Feb. 28, to discuss the status of negotiations.
This would be very good if this was to happen for two reasons. The first is that if their was to be an uncapped season the the Seahawks would be a powerhouse.
The second is that it means FA won't be delayed, so we can have some excitement about who signs where in the coming month

NFL labor talks break off on eve of free agency
By DAVE GOLDBERG, AP Football Writer
February 28, 2006
NEW YORK (AP) -- NFL labor talks broke off Tuesday three days before the start of free agency, leaving teams and players in a quandary about negotiating new contracts.
Gene Upshaw, executive director of the NFL Players Association, spent the last three days meeting in New York and Washington with commissioner Paul Tagliabue.
"We're deadlocked. There's nowhere to go," Upshaw said. "There's no reason to continue meeting."

Not unless they pull something huge off tomorrow. Of course, if nobody can afford to sign anyone when Friday comes around, there could be a de facto delay until a deal is done.

I hope we don't end up like the NHL. I don't think our situation is that progressed though.

Re: NFL | Kraft predicts CBA deal by Wednesday
The old one is, but it makes it harder to get under cap. Bonus can only be stretched over four years, rather than six; you can't split the cap hit over two years by doing it on June 1; incentives are automatically counted as if they were fulfilled; and an extension could mean an increase in the cap of about $10 million. This might not be all bad since we're under the cap, though. There's speculation the Redskins may have to cut 15-20 players just to break even. Same thing with other teams that are way over right now. Lots of players available and not a lot of people able to sign. That means having cap space right now is a big deal. It also might make it easier to protect the guys we have now.

Apparantly a lot of high profile players are going to have to be cut.
With the Redskins situation that means LaVar Arrington is most likely out the door
