(Nov. 7, 2006) -- If and when the Cardinals and Dennis Green go their separate ways -- and who doesn't expect that to happen? -- look for one of the leading candidates for the job, if not the leading candidate, to be Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz.

    Around the League

Adam Schefter brings fans the latest news from "Around the League."

    It's a no-brainer on so many levels.

For starters, Martz could be the exact offensive-minded coach the Cardinals need to jolt their fan base and capture their players' attention. Martz would be able to get the maximum out of the plethora of offensive talent that the Cardinals have. In Martz's system, quarterback Matt Leinart, running back Edgerrin James, and wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin would be expected to thrive.

Mike Martz was 59-42, including postseason, as the head coach of the Rams.
Additionally, Martz's addition might be enough to entice his former star quarterback, Kurt Warner, to stay on for another season instead of retiring. The two forged a strong relationship in St. Louis, and Martz's arrival could prevent Warner's departure.

Plus, there's this kicker: Martz would go from the former Cardinals city in St. Louis to the current Cardinals city in Arizona.

Martz would like to be a head coach again, the Cardinals are expected to be in the market for one, and the two could wind up being perfect for each other

Yes, saw the report and thought it looked credible. The last thing we need is him there with the increased tension such a move would generate.

Sounds EXACTLY like the type of move the Cardinals would pull the trigger on. The forever snakebitten Cards and the never-a-dull-moment Mad Mike. I wonder if he'd bring Marmie back to Arizona??

Makes perfect sense to me. MM as we all know given the talent will make the offense prolific. The Cards have the talent at the money positions. What about Kurt Warner? What would this do to him?

It certainly would fire up the rivalry between the Rams and Cards.
