NFL Notebook: Dolphins send the Saints a pair of draft picks to acquire Williams

Three years ago, the New Orleans Saints decided Ricky Williams was worth an entire draft. Now the Miami Dolphins believe he could be worth two first-round picks.
And the agent for the 1998 Heisman Trophy winner says Williams is worth more money - which could be a problem for the Dolphins.
The Saints traded Williams to Miami on Friday for draft picks: a first-round choice in 2002 and a third-rounder in 2003 that could escalate to a first-rounder if Williams rushes for 1,500 yards this year.
"That would lead the league and put him in the Pro Bowl and hopefully put us in the Super Bowl," Miami coach Dave Wannstedt said.
The teams also swapped fourth-round selections in next month's draft, allowing the Dolphins to move up 11 spots.
In 1999 Mike Ditka, then the Saints coach, traded all eight of their draft picks to acquire Williams. But the new regime in New Orleans wants to build through the draft.
"We never like to trade good football players, but this was a deal that we felt like we couldn't pass up," general manager Randy Mueller said.
And they'll no longer have to worry about the prickly issue of Williams' contract. The eight-year deal, negotiated after the Saints made Williams the No. 5 pick in 1999, contains large incentives but low base salaries, including just $350,000 this season.
"It's a contract that's unique in the annals of NFL history," said Leigh Steinberg, now Williams' agent. "It's a contract that cries out for renegotiation."
The Dolphins don't plan to renegotiate, Wannstedt said.
Packers: Green Bay acquired troubled wide receiver Terry Glenn from New England.
The Packers gave the Patriots a fourth round pick in the 2002 draft, plus a pick next year that will depend on Glenn's performance. No monetary terms of the contract were announced.
The final sticking point reportedly was the many grievances Glenn has filed against New England over suspensions, fines and the withholding of $8.5 million of his signing bonus.
*****: Fullback Fred Beasley agreed to a four-year, $6.075 million contract to remain with San Francisco.
Beasley, one of the NFL's best blocking fullbacks, rushed 23 times for 73 yards and a touchdown last season. He also caught 16 passes for 99 yards.
Bears: Pro Bowl center Olin Kreutz agreed to a six-year contract that will keep him with Chicago.
The Bears would only say the deal includes a signing bonus of $7 million. ESPN Radio reported the contract is for a total of $23 million.
Jets: Former Jacksonville cornerback Aaron Beasley signed a four-year contract with New York, which lost two starters at the position in the expansion draft.
Beasley had played his entire career with the Jaguars, who took him in the third round of the 1996 draft before releasing him for salary-cap reasons last month.
Bills: Center Bill Conaty re-signed with Buffalo after starting all 16 games last year despite a separated shoulder.
Contract terms were not immediately available. He made $512,000 in completing a one-year contract last season, his fifth with the Bills and first as a starter.
note that the fish don't want to re do the contract, WHAT A SURPRISE, the kid was shafted by his agent and the aints now the dolphins want a piece of the action for peanuts too. Don't expect this to be a long lasting love affair

I'm not gonna shed any tears for the aints, it just shows why they've been such a terrible team throughtout the years, you trade your entire draft for this guy, and 3 years later let him go for basically notta? smart move Duece didnt really play last year so your gambling he pans out. I wish the RAMS would of made a play for Glover, we (I think) have the caproom, him and LL at the ends that wold've been scary.
