Was that not the best halftime performance?
This for me anyways was one of the best halftime shows ever. It was one artist, not two or three trying to out perform the other. Which usually sounds like a train wreck. Prince brought his "A" game, he sounded great, kept it simple and played the hell out of that guitar.

Re: Was that not the best halftime performance?
Eh, I wasn't really feeling it. You think Prince kept it simple, but I thought the opposite happened - he tried to squeeze six different songs into a twelve-minute show and it sounded rushed to me.
It started well with Let's Go Crazy, ended well with Purple Rain. But everything in between was rather iffy to me. I was indifferent to Baby I'm a Star -> Proud Mary, didn't know what to think about the 20 seconds we got of Watchtower, and I thought vocally he was pretty off during Best of You. Guitar solos were very good though.
Personally I would have rather heard simply three of his own songs with him playing more of them.Last edited by Nick; -02-06-2007 at 02:44 PM.

I'm not a big Prince fan, but he deserves credit for giving it his all in a driving rain with an electrical instrument in his hands.

Re: Was that not the best halftime performance?
Hmm. Had never seen Prince perform (did not see the SB this time either). I certainly would not know if this ought to be considered one of the best halftime performances -- out of 41 SBs, I've seen only a few of these shows.
I'm glad Prince took off that Aunt Jemima hair cap for his last song; I thought it looked ugly. Yes, he masters the guitar alright but I agree with Nick, I didn't care much for the interpretations of the first songs. Purple Rain came across very well, even with a nice big band sound from the field.
To me, fortunately, the dancer gals on stage made up for an otherwise average concert.
Thanks Rambos for posting the links.

Re: Was that not the best halftime performance?
I think the Wiggles would have been a better choice. I thought prince was lousy, but i am not a fan of his.

Re: Was that not the best halftime performance?
I am a U2 fan that was the best, but I liked this show. He is not in his sixty and he at least plays and writes his stuff. I’m from the 80's it sounded great; I just built a media room last year. The goal was to have it done by the Rams first preseason game. I finished it just before the second game. I have 7.1 denon AVR-3806 receiver, he sounded very good.
Maybe it’s just me living in the past.Last edited by Rambos; -02-06-2007 at 06:50 PM.

Re: Was that not the best halftime performance?
Now there's something I like! In fact, if it were up to me, I'd like a good, heartfelt late 60s - early 70s show by Jethro Tull. And not just because of their song Living In The Past.Maybe it’s just me living in the past. -- Rambos
For a halftime presentation, let's see:
1. Nothing is Easy
2. Too Old to Rock'n Roll - Too Young to Die
3. Living in The Past
4. Aqualung

Rambos, BTW, here's some material that agrees with your view -- and then some.

Re: Was that not the best halftime performance?
I was not a fan of trying to go from Hendrix to the Foo Fighters. Please, let's not let that happen again. I guess I'll never really like the halftime shows because they will never have the type of music I like involved, plus it just lasts to long. I watch the game for football, which I guess puts me in the minority. Most people just use the game as an excuse to get drunk and don't care about the game, which is why I never attend any SB parties.
