Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
Expensive insurance: Ravens sign Marc Bulger | ProFootballTalk.com

The Ravens have decided to go for broke.
The trendy preseason Super Bowl pick agreed to terms with former Rams quarterback Marc Bulger on Wednesday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Baltimore will pay Bulger $3.8 million, a remarkable figure for a backup quarterback not named Michael Vick. Bulger could make more from incentives if he plays.
The move says a lot. The team doesn't trust Troy Smith (or John Beck) enough to play on a team with championship aspirations should Joe Flacco get hurt.
We also wonder if the move was designed to push Flacco, while simultaneously providing him some veteran know how that has been lacking in Baltimore the last few years.
Bulger hoped for a chance to start elsewhere, but one never materialized. Instead, he will chase a Super Bowl ring as a backup.
This signing doesn't make any sense, IMO, he's an expensive back up right now but good luck to him.

I disagree. I think it makes perfect sense.
The Ravens are poised to contend this year. If Joe Flacco were to get hurt, Bulger could step in and keep things going much more effectively than Troy Smith.
I'm happy for Marc. This is a great opportunity for him.
Re: Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
I'm happy for Marc Bulger, hope he can revive his career there on.
Re: Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
Good for Marc that is the perfect situation for him. He gets to be on a contender and help a young qb who is still learning the ropes. Not to mention like Avenger said if Flacco goes down Bulger can step right in and keep things moving.
Re: Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
This is really good news for Bulger. He may not get to start but he is at least poised to play for a playoff team at the least. If he got in the game I'd have no doubt that the guy could lead them to wins. I REALLY hope he gets to play because I wouldn't mind seeing him behind a better offensive line.
Congrats Mr.Bulger and good luck. Thanks for taking that beating for us and you'll never be forgotten.
Looking forward to that Baltimore preseason game for sure.
Bulger signs with Ravens...
...a one year deal according to NFL Network, 8:00 pm. Wednesday.
Re: Bulger signs with Ravens...
Hm...I guess he didn't retire.
Re: Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
Interesting, I thought he would retire. Best of luck to him.
Re: Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
I am so happy for him. I think it is a really good move on his part; he can now go in be the back up have no pressure on him. He can now take a year to get healthy again and maybe push someone for a starting job next year.
I am thankful for what he did for the Rams and wish him all the best I was never one for the Bulger bashing.
Go Rams 2010 :helmet:

But for $3.8 million? I would've thought $3.5 million or a little lower with incentives that could make the contract worth $6 or $7 million. He's practically getting that type of deal, except for a little more. I think if he held out till training camp, he might have had an opportunity to be a starter some where else. Anyways, I wish him the best of luck.
Re: Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
One year at $3.8 million is pretty high for a backup, but in an uncapped year, why not? It won't break the bank, but it just might keep their playoff hopes alive even if Flacco falls.
Re: Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
I am happy for Marc as well, and I think Baltimore is a good fit. But what was that his agent said about being glad Marc was out of St. Louis where he was slated to make 8.5m? Um, yeah.
Re: Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
Best of luck to Marc Bulger. Hope he gets a SB ring in Baltimore. He deserves one after leading this franchise through our dead years.
Re: Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
I'm not a Bulger back or hater, but he didn't deserve as much blame as he got. There was plenty of blame to go around, and of course, the QB is always the main culprit.
Re: Our old friend Marc Bulger is now a Raven
I think it's a very smart move on the Ravens part, and if given the chance, Marc will do well there. I also believe that he's much closer to a SB ring in Baltimore than he was in St. Louis. Even though it may be as a back-up. The Ravens are a sexy pick to go all the way and Marc will be there for the ride.
I've always said that there's no better job in professional sports than backup a QB in the NFL. You get paid tons of money to hold a clipboard and do mopup duty.
Good luck Marc.
