Panthers cut Keyshawn after drafting Dwayne Jarrett

Quote:
Panthers cut Keyshawn
May 01, 2007

Keyshawn Johnson was released by the Carolina Panthers Tuesday, leaving one of the NFL's most productive receivers looking for a third team in as many years.

""They said they wanted to get younger,'' Johnson said. ""That's fine with me. I'd like to go somewhere and help someone win another Super Bowl.''

Johnson, 34, spent the weekend working for ESPN in New York during their NFL draft coverage and will undoubtedly receive offers to work in broadcasting. But his first choice is to play another season or two.

The move was somewhat surprising since the Panthers paid Johnson a $3-million roster bonus April 1. Carolina drafted Southern Cal receiver Dwayne Jarrett and also have Keary Colbert.

Last season, Johnson caught 70 passes for 815 yards and four touchdowns, two of them against Tampa Bay.

Johnson even joked that he would consider returning to the Bucs.

""Me and Jon Gruden together again. You never know,'' he said laughing. ""Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner did it.''
Normally I wouldn't have any sympathy for Meshawn, but I know whenever the Panthers took Jarrett he was excited to be able to mentor the kid and play with him. Two days later and he's out of job. Can you say cold blooded, Carolina? Jeez!

WTF! I can't believe they cut him. He was a solid one-two punch with Smith last year. This move blows my mind.

Re: Panthers cut Keyshawn after drafting Dwayne Jarrett

That is hilarious. Keyshawn was a horrible analyst at the draft. He talked a lot of smack about Jarrett, saying that he made a mistake going into the draft this year. Did you guys see him crawfish (back peddal) when ESPN put him on point with Jarrett after Carolina drafted him? There was a lot of uncomfortable silence coupled with played out cliche's. It seemed that when he spoke his mind Jaws,Mort and Berman where waiting for him to get pulled off stage with one of those hooks used on bad acts at talent shows.

Mort bailed him out more than once. Keyshawn seemed out of place. To many delays in his response when called upon.

After paying him 3 mil they cut him. Not too smart, maybe they will cut Jenkins next.

Yikes, talk about a slap in the face! At least he got paid. No wonder Carolina has cap issues. Something tells me Chucky won't be welcoming Meshawn back any time soon.

Re: Panthers cut Keyshawn after drafting Dwayne Jarrett

I think that was cold, and it didn't make sense since it is a lose-lose situation for the whole organization. They lost money, and a good talent on WRs.

Dad gum it, why couldn't they have cut him before we threw all that money to Bennett?
