No question that he would have been a very good NFL WR had he not caught the injury bug.

What a tragedy. He lit it up last year with the Chargers and was looking like a sure fire star. In six starts, he had 37 receptions for 658 yards, and 7 TD's. It'll be interesting to see if the Chargers keep him.

Danario Alexander tears ACL at Chargers practice

Danario Alexander's left knee has given him a lifetime of challenges. Now the other knee presents what will perhaps be his biggest obstacle yet.

The San Diego Chargers announced Tuesday that Alexander tore the ACL in his right knee. It is highly likely the injury will require season-ending surgery.

It's a cruel blow for Alexander, who has endured at least five surgeries on his left knee dating back to his college days. The latest injury came during Tuesday's practice. Chargers coach Mike McCoy had downplayed the seriousness of the injury.

Alexander emerged as an impact player in the back end of last season, finishing with seven touchdowns while averaging nearly 18 yards per catch. He was slotted to be the Chargers' No. 1 wide receiver this season.

True..... but I really wish it would have worked out for this young man. Perseverance, tenacity and talent. Have we seen the last of him??

No question on the talent, this is a sad, but inevitable injury. THe injuries are what prevented him from being drafted in the first place. The human knee can only take so much.

The cruel irony here is that the left knee that has required so many surgeries, is fine, and the right knee that had never needed surgery, now does.

To see this happen to an individual who has shown so much heart, so much fight, so much drive, and so much toughness, is absolutely heartbreaking. I'm rooting for him to come back, but this time the odds just seem virtually insurmountable.

Ahem, I've never hid the fact that I'm a lifelong Chargers fan, despite the "traitor" label.

Quoting Rotoworld, for lack of a better source:

    Chargers waived/injured WR Danario Alexander.

Alexander tore his right ACL on August 6 and had reconstructive surgery on August 15. The quickness with which the procedure was performed suggests DX's ACL tear was clean and affected no other ligaments. It will be interesting to see whether any team takes a flier on him via the waiver process. To do so, they'd have to pay Alexander's full $1.323 million salary for a lost year. Alexander is a free agent in 2014, so we suspect he won't be claimed.
