Rehashing the 2006 NFL Draft
The Houston Texans had the 1st pick in the 2006 NFL Draft and surprised alot of people by picking DE Mario Williams.
Did they they make the right choice?
Here are some notable picks from the 2006 draft:
1. Mario Williams-DE, (Houston Texans)
2. Reggie Bush-RB, (New Orleans Saints)
3. Vince Young-QB, (Tennessee Titans)
10. Matt Leinart- QB, (Arizona Cardinals)
11. Jay Cutler-QB, (Denver Broncos by way of Trade with St.Louis RAMS)
15. Tye Hill-CB, (St.Louis RAMS) --UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
27. DeAngelo Williams-RB, (Carolina Panthers)
Re: Rehashing the 2006 NFL Draft
I, much like everyone else, was shocked to hear that Reggie wasn't going to be a Texan. Even though Bush played well with the Saints this year, I absolutely think they nailed the pick. Super Mario is a beast and will be for a very long time. I still think it cost Charlie Casserly his job, which I think is a huge mistake. His reason for drafting a DE; "When you play the Colts twice a year, if you can't rush the passer you won't win the division." I have a lot of respect for Casserly and I think he put the Texans in a position to continue to be very competitve in the next few years.

And this is partial evidence that addressing the position in need is vital for turning a team around rather than reliance on the BPA. I can only imagine the Texans being a ship full of holes if they went after Reggie.

I have a lot of respect for Casserly also. And, Casserly also mentions that he really likes Bradford and thinks that he will be a star. :D
The 2006 draft was definitely not one of my favorite.

Not so sure about that. I think it was a huge mistake to consider him the best player in the draft. The Bush bandwagon was way out of control. The only thing the guy was bringing to the NFL was speed and even then it wasn't like he had Deion Sanders or Darrell Green speed. That just isn't enough. Goes to show you what happens when you listen to the hype machine.
