There Goes Cofield
Per Twitter via Rotoworld:
Damn!Redskins agreed to terms with DT Barry Cofield on a six-year contract.
The Redskins were fully expected to pursue Cofield, who will presumably replace Ma'ake Kemoeatu as the starting nose tackle in Jim Haslett's 3-4 scheme. Cofield bounced back nicely in 2011, grading out as a top-12 tackle in Pro Football Focus' ratings. Mike Shanahan's club is still expected to battle the Cowboys for free agent DE Cullen Jenkins this week.

Re: There Goes Cofield
Mebane would be very nice. I actually prefer him to Cofield, especially since it would be the case of "Seattles loss is our gain".

Re: There Goes Cofield
According to what I've been reading, if Seattle tenders a decent offer, Mebane will stay. Dag nabbit!

Re: There Goes Cofield
Cofield as a 3/4 NT ? Isn't he about 30-40 pounds light for that gig?
I'm mildly disappointed but I don't think it's disastrous even if Mebane sticks with the Hags. I maintain my belief that Spags' aggressive DL is going to leak the run sometimes, no matter who's there. It's run support from the LBs and safeties that keep those leaks from sinking the ship. Hopefully, Mikell will be joined by some other guys at LB to help with that.

Re: There Goes Cofield
GAHHHH!!!!
I'm starting to hate Dan Snyder more and more for signing free agents who don't fit into the systems he implements and taking Atogwe from us.
EDIT: I can only see Cofield regressing to be a 3-4 DE, I'm guessing he was offered 3/4 of Haynesworth's contract while they release him. This is only gonna go bad for both parties.Last edited by fliptalianstallion; -07-27-2011 at 03:20 AM.

Barry Coefield agree's to terms with....
Unfortunately Mr.Coefield goes to Washington. Him and the Redskins agreed to terms with a 6 year deal. He should fail epically like albert haynesworth. 4-3 DT's Do NOT translate into 3-4 DT's or even 3-4 DE's. Good luck washington.

Oh well once again the all mighty dollar wins, we all know how Washington loves to overpay players, I can only imagine the money they threw at him.

Re: Report: DT Cofield agrees to terms with Redskins
Damn, another free agent over-paid and played out of position by Washington. After Mebane who's the next best DT on offer because at last check the Rams have only Robbins and Scott under contract for 2011.

Re: Report: DT Cofield agrees to terms with Redskins
Well this is a lousy start to my day. Gotta admit though I knew a bunch of teams were interested in this guy and it wasn't going to be easy to sign him. I was hoping that his past connection with Spags and our 4 -3 defense would win the day but apparently not.
Hate to bring it up again (well, not really) but I am really concerned that we blew it by passing on a DT like Steven Paea for our "hybrid" TE in this last draft.
Scott Wright called Paea being selected in the 2nd round a "steal" by the Bears.
Oh well, onward and upward as they say, let's hope we can ink Mr. Mebane although it looks like his value just shot up with Cofield gone.
WHAT SAY YE?

Re: Report: DT Cofield agrees to terms with Redskins
Let's not panic here. One DT spot is set with Robbins. If the Rams can't upgrade the other, some combination of Gary Gibson, Darrell Scott and Jermelle Cudjo will man the fort on first and second down. On third, you'll likely see James Hall (who is a big DE at 280 lbs) slide inside with Robert Quinn rushing from the end. Could be worse.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!
