A source has told me the Redskins have agreed on a trade for Jammal Brown. Still trying to confirm compensation.

Doesn't sound like Albert Haynesworth was involved, but we'll see.
Brown should be able to step in immediately and play at left tackle, where he's been a Pro Bowl player for New Orleans in the past. This would allow them to keep rookie Trent Williams at right tackle, where he spent much of his time at Oklahoma.
The Redskins' line just got stronger, assuming Brown can stay healthy.

The compensation looks to be a conditional draft pick:
The New Orleans Times-Picayune's Jeff Duncan reports the Saints have agreed to trade restricted free agent LT Jammal Brown to the Redskins. According to FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer, the Saints will receive a conditional draft pick.
Albert Haynesworth is not involved. A Pro Bowler as recently as 2008, Brown will immediately upgrade a shaky Redskins offensive line as long as he checks out physically. The plan is to stick with rookie Trent Williams on the blindside with Brown entering at right tackle, but that could change in training camp. Artis Hicks will move inside to right guard, upgrading a second position up front. The trade is great news for Donovan McNabb's fantasy value. Brown will have to sign his tender before the deal goes through.

Sounds like a good pickup for the Skins, depending on the compensation, which I assume will be based on playtime.
They're really not afraid to trade away their draft picks, are they?
Re: Saints OT Jammal Brown reportedly traded to the Redskins
According to NFL. com, it's either a 3rd or 4th round pick (whichever they don't send to the Eagles for McNabb) plus a 2012 sixth round pick if certain conditions are met. All in all, I'd have to say that a maximum of a 3rd and 6th for a young starting tackle isn't a bad deal.

I didn't realize he was that old. I wouldn't have thought a 2005 draft pick would be any older than 27 or maybe 28 if he red-shirted.

well there you go. Can you explain what red-shirted actually means? And a walk-on etc. Ive never actually bothered to check what all these terms mean.....

Sure, it's a little bit of a tangent, but I doubt anyone's really going to complain at this time of the year.
Red shirt is a term for a college player who is on the team but doesn't actually play in games. Under NCAA rules, that player does not use up one of his four years of eligibility to play. Often it is because of injury, but players will also red-shirt their first year of college if they know their prospects of starting would be slim at first but would improve later.
A walk-on is basically a player who tries out for the team without having received an athletic scholarship.
