SAINTS - Rookie OT Brown supposedly signed to five-year deal
Saints' top pick reaches agreement
METAIRIE, La. - Jammal Brown, the New Orleans Saints' top draft pick, agreed to a five-year contract and arrived at the team's training camp Friday.
The offensive tackle was the 13th pick overall and the top offensive lineman taken. The Saints project him as a possible opening day starter.
Negotiators worked overnight to try to close out the deal, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said. Brown missed only the first mandatory meeting of training camp on Thursday evening.
"I wish it would have been about 12 hours earlier, but at least the deal was agreed to in time for him to have a chance to practice this afternoon," Loomis said. "It puts our coaches in a tough position if we don't have everybody ready to go at that very first meeting and that very first practice."
