I guess we'll just have to sign Ty Law.

Not likely. He's a Poston client.

I'd bring back Jacoby Shepard before another Poston client.

The last thing we need on this team is Ty Law, IMO.

I agree, he's overpriced and injury prone.
We have enough tallent at DB right now. Someone will pan out at saftey. And one of the FA's will make it as a nickel/dime back.

I beg to differ. Travis Fisher is good against the pass and the run, meanwhile Jerametrius Butler is a liability against the run. He's just not physical enough to take down the runner. If you need an example of that, look at the Atlanta playoff game.

Ty Law, if healthy (which he would be if we signed him), would immediately be an upgrade over Fisher and Butler. Inject him into the starting lineup with T-Fish and we've got two corners who can cover and tackle, and save Butler for the nickel and dime packages.

When in the nickel and dime packages, we could move Law to the slot to rough up the 3rd and 4th WR's of the other teams and take them out of the play, while Butler flashes his cover skills.

As you can see, I've given this a lot of thought. If we could somehow sign Ty Law, I'll definitely be celebrating.

    Re: Schulters off the market

It's really a moot point. Not only is Law a Poston client, but he's asking for fairly big contract figures...

Lions | May Offer a Contract to Law - from www.KFFL.com
    Mon, 25 Jul 2005 19:07:09 -0700

ESPN.com's John Clayton and Len Pasquarelli report Detroit Lions president Matt Millen was excited and surprised about how well free agent CB Ty Law (Patriots) worked out for the team, according to agent Carl Poston. "They told us that they had to work some things around financially and they could give us an offer by Tuesday (July 26)," Poston said. Law doesn't want to take a discount and wants to be paid about $6 million a year.
    Yeah, no thanks.

No team is going to give Law 6 million. He's going to figure that out eventually. When he realizes his market value isn't what it used to be, we should be able to afford him.

I dunno....teams have been paying some big signing bonus money to DBs.

Cowboys: Anthony Henry - 11 million in bonus money

Ravens: Samari Rolle - 11 million in bonus money

Panthers: Ken Lucas - 13 million in bonus money

Even if he does come down slightly on his price, Poston isn't going to allow him to come down significant amounts, and regardless, teams like the Jets and Lions will be willing to pay higher than we can due to a bigger need at the position. That doesn't even factor in other teams who, in camp, may lose a cornerback to injury, which would increase the demand for a veteran like Law, provided he can play.
