Is Seahawks LB Aaron Curry officially a training camp holdout?

I find it interesting to follow news regarding prospects that the Rams either considered or that other Rams fans wanted in last April's draft, and it just occurred to me a bit ago that I haven't heard anything about Aaron Curry signing a contract. So I did some searching and found this...

A message posted on the Twitter page of the fourth overall draft choice Friday morning says his agents and Seattle are "still in contract negotiations."

The item was posted approximately eight hours before Curry was to join the rest of the Seahawks on the field as their new starting outside linebacker.

Thursday, Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell said the team was going to go "nonstop" to get Curry signed by the first practice.

He said the sticking point is that Curry's agents want guarantees of at least the $28 million quarterback Mark Sanchez got from the New York Jets as the fifth overall pick.

The Seahawks think top quarterback deals are inherently richer and do not apply.

Four of the NFL's top seven picks had signed as of Friday morning.

This was posted on the Seattle Times this morning, and I've read Seahawks camp practices began this afternoon @ 3:30pm I believe.

If that's the case, technically Curry is a camp holdout. I wonder how long this will go on? Will the Seahawks buckle and give Curry more guaranteed money than Sanchez even though QBs are typically paid more? Or will Curry's agent come down on their demands a bit despite being picked one slot ahead of Sanchez?

Or, a third scenario, will they wait for third overall pick Tyson Jackson to sign his deal to give them a better idea of the slotting right above Curry?

It's a little late for the Hags FO to be debating whether a LB is as intrinsically valuable as a QB, isn't it?

They picked him at a spot for the most part traditionally reserved for franchise players and put themselves even further over the barrel by getting rid of Peterson.I'd say Curry has 'em by the short feathers.

Clayton said on ESPN710 in Seattle that the deal would be done no later than Monday. Still, it doesn't do Curry or the Seahawks any favors having him miss practice time.

Now does this mean that the Rams just got a good young kid in Smith, or does it mean that more NFL teams need a guy like Kevin Demoff in their organisation?

There was a No. 59 when the Seahawks opened practice to the public on Monday. More than one in fact, and if you wanted to, you could even buy a No. 59 jersey.

It's the man who's supposed to be wearing No. 59 who remained absent. So far, Seattle has failed to sign linebacker Aaron Curry -- the No. 4 overall pick in April's draft. He's missed four days and six practices of training camp so far.

"Every practice he misses becomes more critical because he's missing repetitions he'll never get back," coach Jim Mora said. "But I remain confident that something will get done soon."

Can't blame the coach for feeling that way since he's just one pesky signature away from having a 254-pound linebacker capable of extreme violence on the roster and in his defensive huddle.

And even though Curry was absent, there was someone putting on a No. 59 jersey for the first time Monday. It was Ron Korneliussen, who arrived for the morning practice wearing the Curry jersey his son Aaron had given him for Father's Day.

But of all the incarnations of Curry's jersey, Jennifer Choi won the award for ingenuity. Her No. 59 jersey originally had a different name on the back of it: Peterson. It's true. She took a Julian Peterson jersey and updated it, removing the lettering of Peterson's last name and adding Curry's. Her workmanship was spot on, especially considering she said it was only the third time she'd used a sewing machine. So while Curry was gone from Monday's practice, the Seahawks' first-round pick certainly was not forgotten.

Six days into training camp, the Seahawks are still without top draft choice Aaron Curry.

And coach Jim Mora says he still isn't thinking about the fourth overall pick.

Curry missed his eighth consecutive practice on Wednesday morning. Negotiations on his rookie contract remain stalled.

Mora didn't say if the extended absence will leave Curry behind in learning Seattle's new defensive schemes and cause him to miss preseason games.

Seattle general manager Tim Ruskell has said the sticking point is Curry's representatives basing their position on the $28 million guaranteed that fifth overall pick Mark Sanchez got from the New York Jets.

I don't think they are too far off, but sometimes that extra half million or million can take several days to discuss.
Both Curry and Crabtree are still holdouts.

This just in: Rams screwed over most of top 15 picks by not taking Crabtree in the top 3 like he deserved! The poor rookie receiver is responsible for holding up the cotract talks of at least eight players all because he was not selected where he should have been but still deserves top 3 money.

Rookie linebacker Aaron Curry has reported to Seahawks training camp after agreeing to a six-year contract.

Curry was the fourth overall selection and the last remaining rookie to be signed of Seattle's draft class. He missed eight days of training camp.

Curry will receive a six-year contract from Seattle that will guarantee him $34 million and a total package of $60 million. It is the largest rookie contract in NFL history for a non-quarterback.

Most first-round picks had agreed to five-year contracts. Curry and top overall pick Matthew Stafford are the only ones who have agreed to six-year deals.

All that dough for a Strong-side Linebacker? I don't see this at all. Hey, just another feather for Kevin Demoff's cap that he was able to get Jason Smith signed without an insane deal like Curry got. And, gee, Smith can only play both tackle spots and will eventually be our franchise Left Tackle for years to come. Last I looked a franchise LT is FAR more valuable than a Sam LBer.
