The Seattle Seahawks made their second big move for a pass rusher in as many years.
Falcons DE Patrick Kerney has informed FOXSports.com that he has signed to a six-year deal with Seattle, the team his former head coach Jim Mora coaches on. Kerney will receive $19.5 in guaranteed money and the total deal is worth $39.5 million.
Mora was part of the contingency that went to recruit the former first-rounder to Seattle as Mora and other Seahawks officials took owner Paul Allen's private jet to Atlanta to get the deal done.
Last off-season the Seahawks brought in Pro Bowl LB Julian Peterson and he panned out extremely well. Kerney is coming off an injury-plagued 2006 in which he only played nine games and had 4.5 sacks.
Last week Kerney told FOXSports.com he is a stunning two months ahead of schedule from a torn pectoral muscle that cut his season short. The former University of Virginia star has had three seasons of 10 sacks or more and made the Pro Bowl after 13 sacks in the 2004 campaign.

Looks like the Seahawks have over-paid for a DE,sounds familiar..:)
Re: Seahawks sign DE Kerney to six-year deal
I had heard rumors that Kerney said he wanted to go where ever Mora was.
Another rumor that does in fact come through.

Who was their LE before this?
and 39.6 with 19.5 guarennteed is alot for a guy who cant make it through a whole season, let the seacocks have em.
Re: Seahawks sign DE Kerney to six-year deal
Say what you will but the pass rush in Seattle is going to be pretty daunting. A DE rotation of Wistrom, Fischer, Tapp, and Kearney. Bernard, Tubbs, Darby, and Davis up the middle and Tatupu, Petersen, and Hill playing behind them.

Given the pathetic play of the hawks secondary, you better hope that the pass rush is really daunting!

Are the Seahawks the new Redskins? They seem to have an endless source of money for just grabbing whoever they want whenever they want. Sometimes I wish it were us, sigh :\

I'd hardley call it pathetic. They were 6th in the NFC, which was with Trufant, Herndon, and Jennings missing time, and Mike Green out for the year.
Re: Seahawks sign DE Kerney to six-year deal
The play of the corners was pathetic and the safeties were lousy as well. That comes from a lot of time i spend on the seahawks insiders board. The stats are misleading, they were a lot easier to run on this year. Good luck finding a handful of hawks fans happy with the play of the corners and their depth or lack thereof.
