Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will not re-sign with the Seahawks, The Seattle Times has learned.
Hasselbeck, who has been with the Seahawks since 2001, is an unrestricted free agent. After the NFL lockout ended Monday, teams were told they could begin negotiating with free agents at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The Seahawks were one of five teams talking with Hasselbeck, in addition to Arizona, San Francisco, Tennessee and Miami.
Tuesday afternoon, The Times learned the Seahawks were no longer a consideration.
Charlie Whitehurst is the only quarterback currently on the Seahawks roster.
The Seahawks tried to re-sign Hasselbeck earlier this year before the lockout, but the sides could not reach an agreement.
Hasselbeck's chance to return evaporated Tuesday after the Seahawks apparently reached an agreement to acquire another quarterback. Who that quarterback will be was not immediately clear.
The Seahawks were previously interested in Kevin Kolb of Philadelphia. They inquired about him last year before trading for Whitehurst. The Eagles are expected to trade Kolb before the season begins.
Another possibility is Tarvaris Jackson, a former second-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings. He is an unrestricted free agent and in Minnesota played for Darrell Bevell, who is now Seattle's offensive coordinator.
So that means the 'Hawks will either proceed with Charlie Whitehurst, make a move to acquire Tarvaris Jackson, get themselves into the thick of the Kevin Kolb bidding war, or go an unforeseen direction.
But regardless, it looks like the Matt "We want the ball and we're gonna score!" Hasselbeck era is over in Seattle.

Wouldn't be sipping the Kool-Aid yet, we've made Charlie Whitehurst look good on primetime and T-Jax is quite familiar with Bevell's offense.

Looks like the Hawks are going in another direction at QB. T.JACKSON gives the Seahawks less chance in challenging the Rams. ?

They're probably tanking for the Luck or Barkley sweepstakes.
Re: Seahawks will not re-sign Matt Hasselbeck, instead turning to... Favre?
HA! Totally a fake Schefter account, disregard bad Favre rumor...

Reports: Tarvaris Jackson will sign with the Seahawks

In a move that makes plenty of sense but could have Seahawks fans scratching their heads, veteran quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has agreed to terms with Seattle.
The news was first reported by Dave “Softy” Mahler of KJR and confirmed by Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times.
Jackson will arrive in Seattle tonight.
The move reunites Jackson with former Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who along with former Vikings coach Brad Childress put Jackson on ice for two years and bent a knee for Brett Favre. It has long been rumored that Jackson would land in Seattle.
Jackson, a second-round pick of the Vikings in 2006, started 20 games in five seasons. Benched early in 2008 for Gus Frerotte, Jackson played very well after Frerotte suffered a late-season injury. But an unimpressive showing in a home playoff loss to the Eagles set the wheels in motion for two seasons with Favre.
His finest moment arguably came in December 2008 against the Cardinals. Jackson completed 11 of 17 passes for 163 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-14 romp over the eventual NFC champions.

I will enjoy watching the Rams play T.JAX or Whitehurst twice a year.

The Seahawks are out of the Kevin Kolb sweepstakes, according to a source. They had reservations about how steep the price would be in trade compensation paid to the Eagles and financial compensation paid to the QB.
The Seahawks have agreed to terms with Tarvaris Jackson, who played under offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell in Minnesota. Seattle also is expected to sign Matt Leinart, coach Pete Carroll‘s former QB at USC, to join Charlie Whitehurst on the roster.
Vikings WR Sidney Rice remains a prime free-agent target, according to the source.
Tavaris Jackson to Seattle
Thought this was worth mentioning since we'll be beating them twice this year. It won't be official until Friday, but both sides are saying they've reached an agreement. My gut says we'll see him under center instead of Whitehurst.
Re: Tavaris Jackson to Seattle
Love it. Now we just need the whole division to look like this at QB:
Arizona: Kolb (I don't buy the hype)
San Fran: Alex Smith (duh)
Seattle : Tavaris Jackson
Anyone scared of those three? It actually makes me chuckle thinking those may be the QB's in our division. Especially with our Dline. :<>
Re: Tavaris Jackson to Seattle
So I'm guessing we will be reading/hearing about Hasselbeck signing with the Titans very soon?
Re: Seahawks will not re-sign Matt Hasselbeck, instead turning to Tarvaris?
So with Leinart headed to SEA, we now have a 3-way battle between Leinart, Jackson, and Charlie Whitehurst. Wow.

Wither way, I like our chances with any of those 3. Most scared of Jackson of the 3 tho

I would much rather be facing Jackson/Whitehurst than Hasselbeck.
