Seattle Times: LT Walter Jones out after second knee surgery
Walter Jones to undergo knee surgery
Posted by Danny O'Neil
August 19, 2009 at 6:08 PM
Left tackle Walter Jones will undergo surgery on his left knee on Thursday morning, an arthroscopic procedure.
Jones left practice Monday after participating in an 11-on-11 drill. It is the same knee Jones underwent microfracture surgery on in December.

Re: Seattle Times: LT Walter Jones out after second knee surgery
It looked like Jones was on the downside anyway, but it's still not good news for Seattle. Hasselcrack, who has had back problems, can't be happy, especially after the woeful season he had last year. They also have Aaron Curry with a strained groin and Marcus Trufant is apparently out indefinitely with a disk problem.

Sounds to me he and Trufant may be out for a while. Can't find any update about Curry's groin, but he did strain it Tuesday night and was forced to leave practice.

Seahawks get double dose of bad news
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 19, 2009 9:06 PM ET
Only two teams lost more games from their starters to injury in 2008 than the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately for new head coach Jim Mora, this year is starting out like the last.
Mora announced Wednesday that left tackle Walter Jones will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery after missing nearly all of training camp because of the injury.
The team will also be without cornerback Marcus Trufant indefinitely because of a "disc issue" in his back. He hasn't practiced in camp.
No other details are available from the Seattle Times' Danny O'Neil, who posted the news on Twitter. (O'Neil does have pictures of Mora delivering the news. Fancy.)
Both injuries are deeply worrisome for the Seahawks. Jones is coming off microfracture surgery, and the 35-year-old future Hall of Famer couldn't last a few days at camp without getting hurt again.
He said in July that he will consider retirement after the season, and this setback can't be easy on him. (Or Matt Hasselbeck's confidence.) Jones is also struggling with back issues.
Trufant, 28, is a bigger mystery. The team's best cornerback finished last season healthy and his back problems weren't known by the media until camp started. He's on the active/PUP list, so he's eligible to sit out the fist six weeks of the season without taking up a roster spot.
It's too early to think about that option, and there is no reason to panic in mid-August. But Wednesday's developments have a familiar feeling for Seahawks fans.

Wow, when it rains it pours. Add starting LB Leroy Hill to the list with a brain injury. He's going to court, during the season, to face drug possesion charges. The league will probably get involved too.

Re: Seattle Times: LT Walter Jones out after second knee surgery
Jones was gone most likely anyway after this season. The potential loss of Trufant for the rest of his career could be massive in their attempt to rebuild quickly. He's a big loss.

Re: Seattle Times: LT Walter Jones out after second knee surgery
This sure casts a different light on their decision to pass on Eugene Monroe in favor of Curry. Don't get me wrong, Curry in all probability will be a star in this league but he does not play a position of crucial importance like Monroe does.
This is made even more questionable given the fact that Jones is 35, coming off of major knee surgery, and has been openly musing about retiring in a year or so.
I can almost bet what Billy Devaney would have done had he been dealt these same cards.
WHAT SAY YE?

At least seahawk fans will now know how if feels for rams fans to lose Orlando Pace. Pace and Jones are the two best left tackles of the last 25 years in the nfl.

Re: Seattle Times: LT Walter Jones out after second knee surgery
Looks to me like the Seahawks are in for a rough (couple of) year(s). They haven't got a very good roster to start with, in my opinion it's one of the worst in the league, maybe even worse than ours. Questionmarks at most positions, especially on offense where they need a new franchise QB, a new star RB, a new LT and so on, most of the important positions are not very well manned. One of the only things they've got going for them is their strong group of linebackers with Tatupu, Hill & Curry, looking bleak at a lot of other positions.

Re: Seattle Times: LT Walter Jones out after second knee surgery
This is flat out silly to say. The Seahawks have what would be concidered a top-10 talent pool on their defense, and a top 15 WR core, as well as a pro-bowl quarterback. It is highly unlikely Walter Jones will be out for more than 2 weeks, and Trufant, not much longer than that.

Re: Seattle Times: LT Walter Jones out after second knee surgery
top 15 WR corps? really? thats a bit of a stretch isnt it?
Hasselbeck WAS a pro bowl QB, but he wont be this year. With his recent injury troubles its unlikely he makes it through every game.

Cornerback Marcus Trufant headed to physically unable to perform list
Posted by Danny O'Neil
September 5, 2009 at 3:40 PM
The Seahawks have not announced roster moves yet, but it's believed that cornerback Marcus Trufant has been placed on the physically unable to perform list (PUP). That means Trufant will not be eligible to play until the Seahawks' seventh game, which is Nov. 1 at Dallas, after Seattle's bye week.
Trufant suffered a back injury two days before training camp began on July 31. The injury was subsequently diagnosed as a disk injury. His injury leaves Josh Wilson as the starter at left cornerback and now the question is whether Seattle keeps a fourth cornerback with Trufant unavailable for the first six games.

Re: Seattle Times: LT Walter Jones out after second knee surgery
New guy and actually a seahawk fan who just likes to talk football! Anyway it looks like the FO is pretty convinced that Jones will be ready to go pretty soon and of course Tru will be back for Dallas. To be honest I really hate gong to my sites and reading all the players going on IR and what not before the season even starts! It would be more fun if we could all be at first strength.
