Should the Rams try go get Champ Bailey

Si.com writes that contract negotiations between the broncos and bailey has stopped. Bailey speculates that he is going to be traded.

Should we hope for that the Rams are dealing for him? The guy is 32 but he can still play on a high level for 3-4 years I would guess.

We need to worry about a #1 receiver and a #2 RB, I think before going after someone like Bailey.

He's going to the Ravens, if anywhere at all

Bailey is 32 years old, and likely will desire a hefty sum. I like our starting duo of Bartell and Fletcher, and can't see Bailey signing on as a backup. If Champ would accept a lesser role, (and commensurate salary), then maybe, but I agree with Alpha that #1 receiver and #2 rb are greater needs. (I'd add to that list a stud guard or two in 2011) Add to that the fact that next year's draft is suppose to be loaded with some exceptional talent - I'd say we should hang on to all our picks (excepting a dire emergency), and fill holes with young hungry players ..

More of a last piece of the puzzle/stopgap hero type, rather than a building block, no?

And if he's still got the legs for a couple more years, why won't Denver pay him? They have all those Charger WRs to cover if they want to contend in the near future. Maybe McDaniels has soured another key relationship, though.

I'm all for trading for proven playmakers like Champ.

Heck he is probably one of my favorite non Rams player.

But I just don't see him fitting in here.

I think Ron and Fletcher are doing a stand up job, and I believe the draft picks and money can go to improving more pressing needs, ie WR and BURB.

It is worth a look, but the Rams seem unwilling to seriously upgrade the team outside of the draft.

There is absolutely zero chance of the Rams even considering Champ Bailey, unless he is given away. And maybe not even then, considering his asking price and age. It would not make sense if you look at where we are as a team and our team needs. If the Rams did any real significant dealing before the deadline, my guess is it would be for a number one receiver.
