Yeah just watching him catch that pass over the middle from Bulger in the Chargers Pre-season game had me excited, great route as usual from Ike..
Re: Si.com top 500 players
My thoughts on this, FWIW........
1. This is NOT comparing apples to oranges. This IS comparing apples to oranges to squash to pepperonis to chickens to Ford Explorers to Hugo Chavez' niece's dog.
In football, more than any other sport, one can not make comparison across positions. I know it, you know it, and Peter King knows it. He says as much in his "criteria for the 500" article. Yet he did it anyway. Good for him, but in the end it's as meaningless as every other ranking in preseason. It makes for nice discussion, but nothing more.
2. Bruce at 411 is jaw-dropping awful when viewed against other receivers.
341 Brandon Manumalauna (TE, but I had to mention this one)
344 Drew Bennett
345 Anthony Gonzalez
374 Roscoe Parrish
376 Ted Ginn, Jr.
383 Mushin Muhammed
395 Matt Jones
402 Kevin Curtis
All ranked ahead of Bruce. I must ask......right now, would you replace Bruce with any of them? The coaching staff declined to replace him with at least two of them (Curtis, Bennett).
What's it going to take for Bruce to get noticed? How many electrocuted pitbulls will he have to drive through the doors of a strip club after shooting a girl he gave herpes to under an assumed name while covering up for a member of his entourage will it take before Bruce gets a little respect?
Re: Si.com top 500 players
I don't see how they can put Smith right ahead of Holt saying he is "the most complete receiver"? Complete!?!? He is great, but hardly consistent. Smith has speed, but Torry is a complete package (awareness downfield, route-running, etc.) I am in no way trying to take away from Smith, he is great. But I don't think you can judge the best NFL WRs like that. As HUbison pointed out:

Now that's a little crazy, putting anythony gonzalez and Ted Ginn that far ahead. I would like to see a position by position one though.
edit- they havent proved a thing (ginn, gonzalez)
Re: Si.com top 500 players
Another comical list/ranking. This type of list/ranking is the exact reason why people shouldn't get bent out of shape when reading rankings about Rams players or the team itself whether it be about the preseason or the regular season. It's just ridiculous, surely most of us, if not all of us could come up with a better and more realistic list.
Re: Si.com top 500 players
When you try to rank 500 guys, you're bound to make a few mistakes. I'm not sure if I could even name FIVE HUNDRED current NFL players, much less be able to objectively compare their contributions to their teams against each other regardless of position.
That said, it's an insult to Bruce to stick him below Manumaleuna. Heck, Tank Johnson--whom no NFL team will even touch right now--is ranked #300.
Re: Si.com top 500 players
the Bruce thing is bad, but Randy McMicheal, our starter at TE, is rated at 399, which is lower then Manumaleuna's 341. And Manu is a backup that doesnt see much time behind Antonio Gates

Don't get all bent out of shape at Bruce's number HUb. I am sure they are aging him and they think he is near the end of his career. I think he is primed for a great year and he still has plenty of speed, skill, smarts, and competitive spirit to play well in this league. Let's hope that our coaches know more than this writer.
Getting noticed is not necessarily a good thing....I am pretty sure Mick Vick wishes he had a lot less attention right about now.
Re: Si.com top 500 players
I think Bruce and Jackson deserve a little higher then that.
Bruce could very well be fifth in all-time receiveing yards after this season and he posted a 1000 yard season last year, I think he deserves more credit then that. How can rookies who haven't played one snap in a real game be on this list? If you want to factor in age why is Walter Jones number 10? He's like 37 or 38 and was injured last year.
