NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) Authorities returned to the sprawling North Attleboro home of Patriots' TE Aaron Hernandez Wednesday and searched the surrounding neighborhood and its streets as part of their homicide investigation, police said.

Police confirmed Wednesday night that the body found near Hernandez's home Monday was that of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, of Dorchester. His death has been deemed a homicide.

A law enforcement official tells FOX 25 Hernandez appears to be directly tied to the homicide which is why authorities executed a search warrant at his home Tuesday night. According to the same source, Hernandez, Lloyd, and two other men were at a bar in Boston the night of the homicide, and at some point, the four men left together in a car driven by Hernandez which was confirmed by a text Lloyd sent another friend, the source says.

It is unclear where the car went or what happened during the ride, but according to the source only three men returned to Hernandez's home at the end of the night and Lloyd was not one of them.

The source also says forensic evidence places a vehicle driven by Hernandez at one of the crime scenes in this case.

Troopers returned to Hernandez's $1.3 million home Wednesday morning, but no one answered. Hernandez returned home during the early afternoon Wednesday, wearing a Patriots sweatshirt and a red hat and carrying what looked like a sports drink. He did not speak to a crowd of reporters staked out about 100 feet away.

Later Wednesday, at least seven state troopers searched both sides of a road just off the street where Hernandez lives. The troopers also searched the industrial park where the body was found and within the Westwood Estates development. The officers used thin poles to pull back plants and search through undergrowth along the road.

Among other items, police said they are searching for a silver mirror cover which is believed to have been broken off a vehicle and may be visible along a route of travel between Dorchester and North Attleboro.

Police have also issued a "BOLO" or "be on the lookout" for a silver Chrysler 300 rental car with Rhode Island registration which may have a connection to the homicide.

While the scene at Hernandez's home was active Wednesday, it pales in comparison to Tuesday's activity when authorities spent three hours inside the football player's home and came out carrying a large box.

FOX 25 believes Hernandez may have hired a lawyer because a courier from Boston law firm Ropes & Gray delivered an envelope to the home Tuesday.

According to Sports Illustrated, Hernandez was questioned Monday evening in connection with the death. Officials have not named any suspects.

A 2013 Chevrolet Suburban rented in Hernandez's name emerged as a key piece of evidence in the investigation. The vehicle was registered to Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Hernandez is represented by the Athletes First agency, which said it has no comment "on the Aaron Hernandez situation."

Hernandez, a University of Florida Graduate and native of Bristol, Conn., was drafted by the Patriots in 2010. He had five touchdowns for the Pats during the 2012 season.

If you have any information, please contact North Attleboro Police at (508) 695-1212 or Massachusetts State Police tip line at 1-866-SOLVE-07 (765-8307).

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is dealing with more than one legal problem. Just one day after law enforcement was at Hernandez's Massachusetts home in connection to a homicide investigation, news emerged of a civil lawsuit filed against Hernandez in Florida.
NFL.com obtained a copy of the complaint filed June 13 in a federal court in South Florida. The complaint alleges that, on Feb. 13, Hernandez and Alexander S. Bradley got in an argument while at a strip club in Miami-Dade County. The complaint said that later, while driving toward Palm Beach County, a gun in Hernandez's possession discharged, hitting Bradley.
The lawsuit alleges that the shooting caused Bradley to lose his right eye, among other injuries. The complaint also said that Hernandez's gun was not properly licensed.
The case voluntarily was withdrawn on June 17, but a lawyer representing Hernandez told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport on Thursday that a new complaint was refiled in South Florida District Court.

NFL.com also obtained an offense report from the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office that appears to be related to the day in question. That day, shortly after 6:45 a.m., a man identified by deputies as Bradley Alexander Sherrod, 30, of Hartford, Conn., was found on the ground close to a John Deere landscaping business near Riviera Beach.
He appeared to be shot in the head and the hand, the report said. The man repeatedly said at the time he did not know who shot him, the report said, but the wounds were not self-inflicted.
The man wasn't cooperative, and told one investigator he didn't want the case to go any further.
"I explained that without his cooperation, the investigation would cease," one deputy wrote. "He understood."
The case is inactive, according to the report.
Lawyers for Hernandez declined to comment.

This civil lawsuit adds a layer of confusion to the separate investigation of a homicide in Massachusetts. The death being investigated involves a body found about 5:30 p.m. Monday night in North Attleboro, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
Citing an unnamed source, SI.com reported Tuesday that Hernandez was not believed to be a suspect, but a rental vehicle connected to Hernandez appeared to be a key piece of evidence. The website said authorities had spoken with Hernandez.
Police were seen again Wednesday at Hernandez's house in North Attleboro, according to The Associated Press. Hernandez was seen leaving his home early Wednesday morning, but he later returned.

Hernandez is now being followed by news choppers wherever he goes.

The Patriots' TE situation is suddenly looking suspect with Gronkowski coming off arm and back surgery, and Hernandez mired in a murder investigation.

Re: Source: Pats' TE Hernandez directly tied to homicide investigation

    BOSTON June 20, 2013

Police plan to go back to the home of New England Patriot's tight end Aaron Hernandez today with another warrant based on evidence that "he destroyed his home security system,'' an investigator close to the case told ABC News.

The investigator, and other law enforcement sources, confirmed that the security system - which included video surveillance - was smashed intentionally.

And a cell phone used by Hernandez was handed over to investigators "in pieces'' by his attorneys, the sources said.

Police also want to know why a team of house cleaners were hired on Monday to scrub Hernandez's mansion, sources told ABC News.

The revelations come as multiple sources tell ABC News that the star NFL player has not been ruled out as a suspect in the murder of a semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, 27, who was Hernandez's friend.

Hernandez has been at the center of the investigation since Lloyd's body was found shot in the back of the head in a scrubby clearing of an industrial park roughly a mile from the Patriots star's million-dollar mansion in North Attleborough Monday.

Police believe Lloyd was killed between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Monday, but his well dressed body was not found until 5:30 p.m. by a teenage jogger, several law enforcement sources told ABC News on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case.

"He [Hernandez] has not been ruled out. We are not calling him a suspect, but he is definitely not in the clear," said one police official close to the investigation.
PHOTO: Massachusetts State Police search along a road near the home of New England Patriot's NFL football player Aaron Hernandez in North Attleborough, Mass., June 19, 2013.

An attorney for Hernandez, Michael Fee, has not commented on the investigation but released a statement saying: "It has been widely reported in the media that the state police have searched the home of our client, Aaron Hernandez, as part of an ongoing investigation. Out of respect for that process, neither we nor Aaron will have any comment about the substance of that investigation until it has come to a conclusion."

State Police searched the Hernandez home that he shares with his girlfriend Shayanna Jenkins, the mother of his infant daughter, with a warrant several times. Hernandez was seen going inside the house Wednesday with his mother and has not emerged since.

Jenkins' sister, Shanea Jenkins, was dating Lloyd, who played for the semi-pro football team Boston Bandits, several law enforcement sources told ABC News.

Shanea Jenkins could not be found in the aftermath of her boyfriend's murder, and investigators were concerned for her safety. Police were able to locate her Wednesday, the sources said.

Investigators have also searched three Enterprise rental cars that were registered to the NFL star, including one that had its silver mirror knocked off. That vehicle, sources said, was recovered at an Enterprise location in Boston Wednesday, a day after police issued a BOLO [Be On The Lookout] for it. The sources said it had been dropped off abruptly sometime Tuesday with the broken mirror.

Another rental vehicle was recovered not far from Lloyd's body. A third rental was stopped from pulling out of Hernandez's driveway Tuesday by state police and its two occupants were questioned and released. Police were seen searching that car Tuesday night.

If true, destroying his security video, smashing his phone, and bringing in a cleaning crew, are not good indicators for Hernandez. Yikes! Things ARE getting worse by the second.
