Spare a moment for Detroit
The Lions have become the first 0-16 team in NFL history. They have been competitive in most of their games and always tried hard; it's a shame that they have set the most unwanted record in the game, as there have been other teams far more deserving of it than them.

Re: Spare a moment for Detroit
The only team deserving of that record is the one that achieves it. Detroit has been flirting for that honor for years now. Maybe now that the shock of actually accomplishing it will usher in the changes that are needed to turn that team around, most of which is getting them off the Thanksgiving telecast every year!

Re: Spare a moment for Detroit
For all the press that Detroit has been getting, they are NOT the 1st team to go o-season.
The Bucs, in 1976/77, went 0-26 but it was only a 14 game season.
It really isn't a great accomplishment.
Poor John McKay.
Also 10 teams have been 0-15 since then.RnD

Re: Spare a moment for Detroit
I feel badly for the fans, but ownership created this situation by not holding Millen accountable for a series of horrible decisions leading to countless non competitive seasons. Millen was in the job about 3 years too long and they will be paying the price for some time. Stafford is a nice way to start rebuilding, although i could see a decision to try to sign cassel (if he isnt franchised which i believe he will be) and then draft andre smith. THey also have a 1 and a 3 from the roy williams deal, which really looks even better given that the cowboys spit the bit and failed to reach the playoffs.

I feel bad for my father. He was born and raised in Detroit. He has been very frustrated with his team's performance. However, his 'Wings won it last year, so he isn't too upset. haha

Re: Spare a moment for Detroit
Could be worse for Lion's fans.. they could be from Seattle!

At least they have a NHL champion Red Wings squad and a competitive Pistons team.
Anyway, I really don't think Detroit is that far from being a mediocre team. Bring in a good head coach and some good coordinators. Draft Stafford with the number 1, than pick up a tackle with Dallas' 1st rounder. Pick up a nice pass rusher and corner in the 2nd and 3rd and the pieces will start to come together. They already have a solid wideout with Calvin Johnson and Kevin Smith looks like a nice young RB.
Defense is another story, however, where they could use upgrades across the map with the exception of maybe Ernie Sims.
