    T.J. Houshmandzadeh to join Ravens

    T.J. Houshmandzadeh to join Ravens

In a surprise move, the Baltimore Ravens reached agreement with former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh on a one-year, $855,000 deal, according to league sources.

Seattle still owes Houshmandzadeh $6.15 million, meaning the receiver will make a total of $7 million this season.

Houshmandzadeh had multiple opportunities but ultimately decided to join a team in the same division as the team that drafted him -- the Cincinnati Bengals.

Houshmandzadeh now will join a stable of wide receivers that includes Anquan Boldin, Derrick Mason and Donte Stallworth.

Baltimore now will have to shed one player from its roster.

Once again, when given a choice between "Superbowl contender with stud defense and emerging offense" and "1st overall draft pick contender with shaky defense and rookie QB" for the same compensation, what would you expect a player to do? It's pretty much a no-brainer, chance a Superbowl, or chance to watch your team pick 1st. Not hard.

Boy, Housh really picked a Superbowl contender in Seattle with that Stud Seahawk defense!

They paid a pretty hefty pricetag for him too, that's what happens when you are a cellar dweller. It is either overpay or hope they see a chance to have a larger role with your team. THIS time, he was going to get his $7mil regardless of whether the Rams offered $4mil more than the Ravens. Ravens say $1mil, we say $4mil, he says I get the rest up to $7mil no matter what from the Hawks. So he was going to make the same money either way, in which case can you blame him for trying to win a superbowl?

His actions pretty much speak for themselves, he could sign any amount with any team and he would be paid the same regardless, (unless someone was dumb enough to pay a player who was just cut by a cellar team MORE than $7mil) and he chose a team that is touted as a superbowl contender over teams like the Raiders and Skins too. It is pretty obvious he wasn't going to be signing with a bottom tier team if given a shot at a superbowl, not when money was no longer a factor.

The situations of when he signed with Seattle and now are completely different.

TJ!!! We got the QB, we got the RB, wth the Rams you could be the MAN at WR!!!! With the Ravens there won't be enough balls to go around, you'll be the 4th option at best. The Raven aren't giong anywhere, 2 years and 2 bust moves for you! CYA, TJ! The Rams are going places without you!!!

Re: T.J. Houshmandzadeh to join Ravens

Where has TJ ever shown himself to be a number 1 WR? In his time at Cincy he benefitted from Ochocinco getting the attention, and then he pretty much bombed in Seattle when he was pushed into the number 1 spot.

Also, to everyone saying he would be a good veteran to bring in and mentor our young WRs, what makes you think this? He has been whining for ages in Seattle and doesn't seem to have a good attitude
