Top 8 NFL QBs not named Bulger
Okay, on another forum there was quite a spirited debate about Bulger's longevity and prospects for continuing as the Rams' QB. I think the consensus was that for better or worse (depending on your perspective) Mark is our guy. Some have speculated that he is capable of being a top five QB in the NFL. So be it. But with that in mind, I invite you to name the top 8 (25%) the QBs in the NFL not named Mark Bulger. Use whatever criteria you wish to rate them but so state what that criteria is so we understand your perspective. Put them in order from #1 best to 8th best.
For my rankings I used a lot of "feel" in my choices. While performance was important, I did not crunch statistics for any analysis. Some choices will be obvious to you but an overarching judgment I made for my choices was their field generalship, huddle presence and demonstrated enthusiasm for the game and on field success (Ws and Ls).
- Tom Brady
- Peyton Manning
- Ben Roethlesberger
- Matt Hasselbeck
- Drew Brees
- Carson Palmer
- Donovan McNabb
- David Girard
Honorable mention: Philip Rivers

I wouldn't put Derek Anderson or David Garrard on the same level as any of these guys.

Correction: I mispelled David Garrard's name. Just in case anyone is wondering who Girard is.

Re: Top 8 NFL QBs not named Bulger
Can those of you who have listed Tony Romo in the top 8 give me your reasoning? Personally I think he is highly over-rated and more of a media invention. He's surrounded by great talent and has been unable to move the "boys" to the promise land. In my mind he'd be a backup for most other teams except he has this marquee persona. What is it that you see that I don't?

Re: Top 8 NFL QBs not named Bulger
I guess I could agree that Romo is overrated while at the same time thinking he's pretty good. I think it shouldn't be forgotten that he's started less than 2 full seasons. His first two years of numbers stack up pretty well to other QB's in the league.

for the guys who think Romo is overrated and I am one of them same could be said for David Garard, one good season does not put you in the top 25% of the NFL

Re: Top 8 NFL QBs not named Bulger
I admitted that I did not use statistics for my ratings. I put most of my rankings on my observations of these QBs leadership on the field as well as team success. I only asked about Romo because it seems the media has made him into a rock star. I asked you all so I could get an opinion from others as opposed to the media.
Related to this I heard Tim Brown in a recent interview refer to Romo as a "guy". Translation: a pro athlete who is good but more of a "guy" as opposed to a star and leader. This reinforced my initial negative impression of him. Plus I hate the Cowboys with all my heart.

Re: Top 8 NFL QBs not named Bulger
Hmm let's see at the top you have Peyton Manning and Tom Brady as the clear top 2.
I'm putting Eli Manning at #3 only based on how he performed in the playoffs...that Eli was just as good as his big bro.
After that it's debatable who should fill out 4-8....in no particular order because really they change throughout the season...Anderson, Romo, Roethlisberger, Palmer, Garrard.
Then the next step below that Hasselbeck, Mcnabb, Brees, Warner.
Bulger IMO is in the mix with that 2nd tier group somewhere.

Re: Top 8 NFL QBs not named Bulger
He's taken them to the playoffs both years he's been a starter, and I'm not holding his one-and-dones against him, considering what Peyton went through for so many years. I think he's got what it takes provided he stays focused (and isn't asked to hold for kicks). He's shown great improvisational ability, he's a solid pocket passer as well as being able to throw on the run, and he's the only QB who's actually gotten TO to like him. With their running game hopefully in better shape with the departure of Jones, if he can get a solid #2 wideout, I think the 'Boys make an even stronger run next year.
"60 stretch, far left uhhhhhhhh" Classic.
