Top Ten Reasons the Lions Hired Mike Martz
Top Ten Reasons the Lions Hired Mike Martz:
(with apologies to David Letterman)
10. The glowing letter of reference from Jay Zygmunt
9. They want Kevin Jones to get some rest
8. Insurance company has to pay Joey Harrington's salary if he gets killed by a blitz
7. Matt Millen has been looking to add bunches of Arizona and Arizona State players
6. They'll make local TV stations happy by calling a timeout every five minutes
5. Martz promised not to bring Larry Marmie with him
4. The excitement that will build in the Lion fan base awaiting the day Jamie Martin
dons the silver and Honolulu blue
3. Due to Detroit's poor economy, the Lions were about to lay off all their fullbacks
and tight ends anyway
2. Martz promised not to to have anything to do with special teams, just like in St. Louis
1. Oddly enough, the motto of the City of Detroit is "Shoot, we'll fix that"

"From the home office in New Baden, IL...."
LOL. That was good stuff.
I particularly liked #1.
"Hey boss, the wheels keep falling off these Chevy Blazers"
"Shoot, we'll fix that!"
Re: Top Ten Reasons the Lions Hired Mike Martz
Too funny! Well, at least Martz is predictable.
Re: Top Ten Reasons the Lions Hired Mike Martz
Funny indeed, but also somewhat scary.
I think the lions will be vastly improved on offense with the addition of Mad Mike. He has established himself as one of the best, if not the best, at developing QB's. Also, the lions have a lot of young talent at the WR position.
Mad Mike back in the booth. Look out!!

Re: Top Ten Reasons the Lions Hired Mike Martz
I'm amassing some thoughts about Martz in Detroit for another time, but I will say I really like Joey Harrington's prospects, IF he can take a hit. And assuming the Lions keep him. But I feel near-positive that Martz can turn him into a player. (No, not a free safety.)

Re: Top Ten Reasons the Lions Hired Mike Martz
With this team and there weapons and martz as a OC in which he is probably the best in the league at. He is not HC material never was never will be he is 2 friendly and treats the players like best buddies not athletes that he is in charge of. Mike will do great as the OC as long as the coach keeps him in check like Vermiel DID. The Lions may not make the playoffs but with all the weapons thay have they will scare alot of teams. OH CRAP WE PLAY THE LIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The happiest man on the planet should be Joey Harrington. If anyone can resurrect his career, it will be Mike Martz. And even better yet for Harrington, Martz won't have the D or ST to worry about while doing it.

Heck, if Martz can get some mileage out of Jamie Martin he oughta be able to get some out of Harrington.
Re: Top Ten Reasons the Lions Hired Mike Martz
Martz MIGHT be a competant head coach. Apparently 31 other teams thought they can do better.
Martz IS perhaps the best OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR in the game. I would rather have a great offensive coordianator than an adequate head coach.

11. Matt Millen is at the end of the plank and maybe Mike Martz can pull him back to the deck.
