I know money is probably the easy answer but how do you let Brown go and then go after Birk? I know Birk is 33 so I assume he will cost less but seriously... this doesn't compute in my book.

You said the answer twice in your post - money.

Birk is not going to cost Baltimore $20 million in guaranteed money like Jason Brown would have.

Since they're competitive now, they can afford to sign Birk as a stop-gap and draft someone to play behind him. Or they can shift Chris Chester there.
