Who will be the 2008 MVP?
To get my mind off the Rams for a bit I started looking over the stats to find out who would potentially be the 2008 MVP. A lot of really good players and previous MVP's have more or less fallen off the map this year, Tomlinson, Brady, Manning etc. It's almost always either a running back or quarterback who ends up winning it, it takes a guy like Lawrence Taylor or Jerry Rice at any other position to win it when you look at history.
The top 4 choices (you could perhaps argue for Drew Brees or Clinton Portis too, but I only included one quarterback and one running back and I think Warner and Peterson are having superior seasons) as I see them are:
Kurt Warner - 3155 yards passing, 70.9% completion rate, 20 TD's, 7 Int
Adrian Peterson - 1100 yards rushing, 7 TD's
Anquan Boldin - 792 yards receiving, 10 TD's
James Harrison - 67 tackles, 12 sacks, 4 FF's, 1 Int
(Boldin only played in 8 games so far, Warner, Peterson and Harrison all in 10.)
So who's your choice so far for 2008 MVP?

Re: Who will be the 2008 MVP?
Hard for me to be objective here, but at this point, it's got to be Warner. I really believe that if the vote happened today, the writers who decide would go with Warner too, especially considering all he's been through. I know perseverance isn't a criteria, but I'm sure it would enter into the equation if things were close. Still a long way to go, but if Warner keeps it up, the Cardinals make the playoffs and Adrian Peterson doesn't do something like break the single season rushing record, Warner is going to be in great position to win number 3. If he does that, it will be almost impossible to keep him out of the HOF IMO.

Re: Who will be the 2008 MVP?
That's a good point. I've always thought that Warner would miss out on the Hall of Fame while the rest of the top players from our GSOT offense would make it in (Faulk, Pace, Bruce & Holt, less sure about Bruce & Holt today than I used to be, maybe they miss out). But as you say it's going to be very tough for anyone *not* to vote for a 3-time MVP.
My vote for MVP goes for Warner too at this point, over 70% completions and a 3-1 TD to Int ratio along with lots of yards it's hard to argue with.

Re: Who will be the 2008 MVP?
I think it's gotta be Warner right now. Boldin is interesting, but don't forget when he was hurt, Warner made Steve Breaston look like a star (and they won both games without Boldin, would they win without Warner?)
Brees is a good player, but there is just something different about how he's playing and Warner is playing. I'm not quite sure what it is, but Warner is just playing better in my opinion.
I hope he gets that 3rd MVP, he's gotta be right on the verge of Hall of Fame status right now, that MVP should push him in to it.

It's either Warner or Brees. My guess would be KW if it happened today.

How about Brandon Jacobs or Albert Haynesworth?
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

As of now I would say Warner has it wrapped up but I think honorable mention should go to Aaron Rodgers, the guy had some big shoes to fill and has stepped in and done a great job.

I forgot one person, Donnie Jones. If he wasn't such a great punter just think how bad we could have gotten beat in some games.

For mind, It's Warner. Despite the fact that he now plays in AZ, it's a job well done up until this point.
OR
The entire New York Giants Offensive Line.

the media, and public at large, likes a 'feel good story' and Warner (again) fits the bill.

Re: Who will be the 2008 MVP?
I really think Drew Brees has it now after that performance on Monday Night. He, the O-line, and those WRs (Lance Moore especially) were just all in sync, and it was in front of much bigger audience.
If the Saints miss the playoffs, I think it really hurts his chances though.
Warner still has great numbers right up there with Brees, and if you JUST look at their numbers, it's really close. Warner higher rating and completion percentage, Bress just a bit more yards and I think 1 more TD, but more INTs.
If Warner wins 10-11 games and continues to play well, he's got a great shot.
Watch out for Favre though. He's got the Jets clicking on all, beat the last undefeated team, and the media loves him. He's behind on the yardage, but his TDs are a lot, and overall, I don't think the voters will look at turnovers as much as long as you got big numbers and are winning (remember Warner winning it with 22 INTs in 2001? Tons of yards, TDs, and wins are what got it for him).
