Why all the fuss about Kevin Kolb?

You've got to hand it to the Eagles.

Over the past couple of years, they've turned Kevin Kolb into a commodity that, once the trade market finally opens, will likely yield a significant sum.

My question is... why? What has Kolb done to make himself such a valuable trade asset?

Looking at his career numbers, the answer is not evident. He has a career passer rating of 73.2, with a per game average of 109.6 passing yards, and a total of 11 TDs and 14 interceptions.

As pedestrian as those numbers are, when compared to the other Eagle QBs of the last three years, Kolb's numbers look even worse:

    2008 Eagles Passer Ratings
    McNabb 86.4
    Kolb 21.8

    2009 Eagles Passer Ratings
    McNabb 92.9
    Kolb 88.9

    2010 Eagles Passer Ratings
    Vick 100.2
    Kolb 76.1

Given these numbers, what is Kolb's appeal?

    Simple economics.

The demand for starting QBs is high. The supply is low. As a result, a guy like Kolb, who is viewed as at least having the potential to emerge as a long-term starter, can bring a team like the Eagles a substantial windfall.

So... go ahead Cardinals, Seahawks or even Niners... trade for Kolb.

I'm not worried about him dominating our, or any other, division in the near future.

Re: Why all the fuss about Kevin Kolb?

One rumor floating around has the Cardinals trading Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for Kolb straight up. While I think the Tards would be nuts to pull the trigger on that deal, it, once again, shows the sense of desperation to acquire starting-caliber QB and what many will pay when demand is high and the supply is low.

Also, believe it or not even freakin' Kyle Orton may be traded and command a premium price!!

Aren't we all glad that we've got Sammy?!

I'd hate to be some team salivating over the crumbs pretending they are franchise QBs.

Actually, the demand factor is less (at least from a broadened perspective) with many teams this year that selected QBs in the 1st and 2nd rounds as their potential franchise QBs. The Niners have a blueprint planned out under Kaepernick, the Seahawks are more likely to re-sign Hasselbeck or start Whitehurst, and the Cards are a head on representative of taking Kolb. Looking at this in retrospect, I'm really glad we took Bradford over Kolb.. it was a high risk gamble but the reward was very high.

I hope he comes to the West and ends up being a bust... it'll hurt or competition for the long run more.

The only postive that Kevin "corn on the" Kolb brings to the table is that he has NFL starting experience. Although very limited (I think 7 games?) he is being sold hard by the media.
