Why all the players vs. league litigation?

First there was the concussion lawsuit.

Now, there is a new case being brought by former players alleging that they were given pain medications without full disclosure of side effects.

The common theme seems to be the accusation that the league failed to adequately advise players of the dangers inherent in the game, with the league responding that the players were willing participants who are failing to take personal responsibility for their actions.

What side do you think is more persuasive?

Re: Why all the players vs. league litigation?

Mike and Mike w/ mark schlereth discussed this today and from what they said, it sounds like there is a little bit of mutual blame but the teams maybe exerted some pressure on players instead of doing the right thing.

Pain pills weren't accounted for properly. Handing out medication without a prescription? Anti inflammatory pills and shots were distributed without proper disclosure or auditing? If you are told you should only get X number of shots of an anti-inflammatory per year and the team gives you more than that - they hold some responsibility, especially if they link pay to play time.

Schlereth said they had a line of players before games waiting to get their pre-game shot that required a prescription. He also said players were given injury diagnosis that were false. He said players were told injuries were minor and then after the season find out it is a hernia or broken bone.

More information needs to come out.
