Winslow hurt in motorcycle wreck, Postons look like morons

Browns' Winslow Hurt in Motorcycle Mishap
Cleveland Browns' Kellen Winslow Jr. Injured in Ohio Motorcycle Accident
The Associated Press

May. 2, 2005 - Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. was injured in a motorcycle accident, but the team said his injuries aren't life-threatening.

Winslow was riding in a community college parking lot Sunday when he hit a curb at about 35 mph and was thrown from the motorcycle, police Lt. Ray Arcuri said.

He was taken by ambulance to Fairview Hospital and was scheduled to be transferred to the Cleveland Clinic on Monday where the team's medical staff would treat him, Browns spokesman Bill Bonsiewicz said.

"He went over the handlebars and was real evasive about what the injuries were," Arcuri said.

Winslow was wearing a helmet, but it wasn't strapped on and flew off his head, Arcuri said. He and four other men were riding motorcycles in the parking lot, not far from Winslow's home.

The first-round draft pick missed nearly all of his rookie year after breaking his leg in the second game of the season. He has had two operations on the leg.
Why do the Postons look like morons, you ask? Apparently, a source on NFL Total Access says that Winslow's contract has a stipulation in it prohibiting "dangerous activities," specifically including riding motorcycles. So chances are, after missing out on bonus money last year due to the Postons messing up his contract, the Browns will likely get some kind of rebate this season because of the language included.

According to profootballtalk.com he could lose over $9mil. The Browns are in a tough position though... if they try to recoup that money, they piss off a guy who is a big part of their future (assuming he stops screwing up like this).

I've heard everywhere from $4.4 mil to $9 mil, but either way, this is yet another black eye for the Postons. I hate to see an injury like this of any kind, but I will ashamedly admit that seeing the Poston's and their prima donna with egg on their face does give me a little guilty giggle.

Hitting a curb at 35 and getting launched over the handlebars would probably cause some damage. It depends if he hit the bike on the way off and what he hit afterwards.

I am certain that other players engage in "dangerous activities" and they only have to pay the price if they get injured.

Sarge, thanks for reminding me of one of the dumbest statements ever made by an athlete. That kid doesn't know the first thing about being a soldier. Winslow wouldn't even make it as a soldier in the Salvation Army.

He should give it a try. Standing there ringing the bell at Christmas might humble him alittle. Not!!! :tough:

Karma could be at work here. Winslow seems to have that cloud of misfortune following him around.
