Zorn hired as new Redskins head coach

From Yahoo Sports:

Jim Zorn hired as Washington Redskins coach

By JOSEPH WHITE, AP Sports Writer
February 9, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington Redskins
hired Jim Zorn as their coach Saturday night, a surprise ending to a monthlong search for a replacement for Joe Gibbs, The Associated Press has learned.

Zorn will be introduced at a news conference at 3 p.m. Sunday, according to a person who was informed of the Redskins' decision. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement had not been made.

Zorn, a former Seattle quarterback, has been the Seahawks' quarterbacks coach for the last seven years. The Redskins hired him to be their offensive coordinator on Jan. 26 while continuing their search for a head coach.

Re: Zorn hired as new Redskins head coach

WOW. Will anyone please take the job from Snyder?!! Carroll turns him down. Nine hours of arm twisting and "no thank you." Then Spagnuolo spends the day and "thank you, but no." Zornes may turn out to be the man in DC but going from QB coach to HC is quite the jump. Based on Snyder's history, if I were Zornes, I might rent out my place in Seattle.

tough to call him an idiot when he is worth over a billion dollars and he didnt inherit it or marry it. I think the better point is that he is arrogant enough to believe that his success in real estate and telecom gives him expertise in football, which obviously is not the case.

Doesn't make much sense to me. Why he thinks Zorn is the answer over Saunders or Williams is a head scratcher. Maybe he felt like he backed himself into a corner and just panicked.

There has to be more to this story. It just doesn't make any sense.

good point GC,since I have given up beer for Lent I have some cranky moments, idiot may have been a little strong, but anyways I will give him his just due respect on his business success(having a billion dollars can't suck) and pull back the idiot comment and say that his football decisions have been questionable at best and because of the decisions we were able to upgrade at the OC position.

Re: Zorn hired as new Redskins head coach

Good luck Zorn...that is a huge jump to make and expectations will be high from Synder.

Synder is funny. His management style has not been good for the team. They are going to feel the loss of Saunders and Williams in a big way for the next season.

Re: Zorn hired as new Redskins head coach

If JKRAMS has given up beer for lent, i expect to see an earnings warning from anheiser busch, as they are likely to see about a 3% decrease in national sales over the next month.

I hope that doesnt mean you have replaced the grog with vodka!

Re: Zorn hired as new Redskins head coach

Well I doubt when he fired Saunders and Williams that he was banking on Zorn being his next head coach. All indications were that he was after Jim Fassell and then later Steve Spagnuolo, but the fan reaction to Fassell was horrible and it didn't seem as if he could lure Spagnuolo away from New York just yet. Zorn clearly wasn't the first choice as head coach, but at that point, Snyder had burned his bridges and had to make due with what he had. Zorn got a five year deal in the process, but I doubt the experiment will last that long without immediate success.

If I was Catholic, these are the things I would give up before beer:

1. Watching Jerry Springer
2. Posting in an AvengerRam poll
3. Brussell Sprouts and Beets
