Cowboys Might Use RBBC Approach

by Nick Eatman - DallasCowboys.com

Of their nine draft picks, three of which returned kicks in college, including top pick Julius Jones, the second-round running back from Notre Dame. In fact, Jones left the school as the all-time leading kickoff returner in Irish football history, surpassing Tim Brown with 2,104 career yards.

Now Jones wasn't exactly drafted with the 43rd overall pick to return kickoffs. By releasing Troy Hambrick in the off-season, it's expected Jones will not only compete for the starting running back job, but shouldn't have much competition standing in his way.

But during training camp and the preseason games, if Jones fails to convince Parcells and the coaching staff that he can handle a full load of carries, the Cowboys might end up with a by-committee approach, which would include Richie Anderson and possibly Aveion Cason or ReShard Lee.

And under that scenario, might Jones then receive consideration to return kickoffs, since his role in the offense would be diminished.

I would be leery of using a cowboys RB. Last season I got stuck with that fantasy bum hambrick. Perhaps the rookie jones could produce some numbers, but I think I would look elsewhere.

I just can't see the Cowboys using Aveion Cason and ReShard Lee with Julius Jones. Richie Anderson has always been a productive fullback, even leading the Cowboys in receiving last season, but he didn't have more than 7 carries in any game last year and isn't a big rushing threat.
