The Jets announced on Thursday that they have signed tight end Mikhael Ricks to a free-agent contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Ricks, who was released by the Lions in June, has 155 receptions and eight touchdowns in his six-year career. He ranked second on Detroit's roster with 37 catches and 434 receiving yards last season.

Ricks will compete with veteran starter Anthony Becht for looks in Chad Pennington's West Coast offense. Becht wasn't cutting it as a fantasy starter, and Ricks has a lot more athleticism than the stodgy incumbent. The likelihood is that neither will emerge as a go-to-guy worth starting on Sunday. However, if Ricks somehow steals the starting gig, he'd be worth keeping en eye on.
