PDF Version of This Release

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - Conference champion Salisbury University earned six first team spots and a share of four individual honors as the 2004 All-Atlantic Central Football Conference team was announced today.

Salisbury junior Leroy Satchell earned Offensive Player of the Year honors as he scored a conference leading 13 touchdowns as a running back while he was second in total yardage (1,109), average per game (110.9) and third in carries (176).

Senior linebacker Brad DeHaven earned his second straight Defensive Player of the Year honors after sharing it as a junior. He recorded 67 tackles, 16 for a loss of 87 yards and 10 sacks for a loss of 73 yards this year for the Sea Gulls. DeHaven also repeated his first-team linebacker selection of 2003.

Salisbury kicker Brock Boland shared the Special Teams Player of the Year honor with Apprentice School return specialist Ricky Doles. Boland was 13-of-17 on field goals and 35-of-40 on PAT's for 74 points. He set the Salisbury single-season record with 13 field goals made and was a three-time ACFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Doles, Apprentice School's first special honoree in the four years they have been in the ACFC, was second in the conference in kickoff return average (22.4 ypr) and third in punt return average (12.3 ypr).

Salisbury head coach Sherman Wood was named Coach of the Year as his Sea Gulls went a perfect 10-0 in the regular season and 5-0 in ACFC action.

Rookie of the Year honors went to Wesley College's Jon Lanouette. The freshman wide receiver led the conference in receiving yards (764) and was second in receptions with 46.
