Accused says he wasn't there when Vandy's Doster shot
Jan. 19, 2005
SportsLine.com wire reports
TAMPA, Fla. -- A man pleaded not guilty Wednesday in the slaying of Vanderbilt football player Kwane Doster.
Rodney "Roscoe" Roman, of Tampa, is being held without bail on a first-degree murder charge in Doster's Dec. 26 death and on two counts of attempted murder.
Roman, 28, has said he was elsewhere when the 21-year-old running back was shot in the parking lot of a sandwich shop after a night out at a club with two friends.
Police said the shooting occurred after Doster's group and another group of men exchanged "trash talk" about their cars while leaving the club.
Roman's mother owns a car that matched a description of the one carrying the gunman. Doster's friends have identified Roman as the one who fired at them, court documents said.
